WHAT COACH WEBB IS SAYING

On the recruiting success and the program's experience over the summer... "It was a great year for us recruiting. We have a great blend of freshman and transfers and we would say that the level of our team has improved drastically. Our trip to Italy over the summer helped us big time because it allowed us to really learn a different brand of soccer and to bring the newcomers into the fold."

On managing the East Texas heat throughout preseason training... "It's been really hot. It has shown us that we perform well at 6 a.m. or 8 p.m. We've had to make some adjustments to the load of training and the time of training to be able to get the most out of them. They came in really fit, we have a really high level of fitness and athleticism this year, and they've been able to adjust really well."

On the increased level of expectation around the program following a year of firsts last fall... "It's why you do what you do. It's the fun part of the job and the fun part of playing. You've got to want to have the pressure and be the team that wants to win. You don't join the Lone Star Conference and be at UT Tyler without the expectations of winning. We have embraced that and we're really excited about where we're at mentally and physically."

On the importance of Monday's home meeting before five straight road matches... "Monday's a big one, obviously your home opener's always fun, but then we're on the road for pretty much the whole month of September. Part of that was by design, we weren't great on the road last year, so before conference play starts we need to become road warriors."
