STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA – UT Tyler cross country continues to impress against tough competition as the men put together a ninth place run with four runners below 50 points and the women placed 11
th and right in the middle of several Lone Star Conference competitors on the day.
The women were first up this week, and they again rode the back of freshman
Kailynn Denney as she powered her way to 33 points on the day. Denney got off to a solid start, with a 11:15.6 split halfway through the race. She would finish in a time of 24:06.0 and place 61
st overall.
It was yet another pair of freshman that joined Denney at the top for the Patriots, as
Finley Hunting picked up 64 points on the day in a time of 25:18.5 and
Zoey Broaddus picked up 75 points in a time of 25:52.3. That Patriots pair would place 100
th and 116
th overall.
Marigold Hunter and
Lana Stapleton closed out the final two point times for the Patriots as they finished with 78 and 82 points, respectively. Hunter ran a time of 25:59.7 overall for 120
th, while Stapleton finished in 26:11.2 for 126
th position.
As a program, the Patriots finished just 19 points behind LSC foe Lubbock Christian, while finishing ahead of UAFS, Texas A&M International, Cameron, and Oklahoma Christian.
Over in the men's race, it was another tough battle that saw the Patriots led yet again by the veteran
Landon Thornton. Thornton pieced together a great run that saw him place 39
th overall and earn 28 points as he finished the 8K race in 26:09.7.
Behind Thornton was a pair of freshman as
Jacob Berryhill and
David Soto finished 55
th and 57
th overall and just under four seconds apart. Berryhill ran a time of 26:35.6 to earn 39 points while Soto finished in 26:39.1 to earn 41 points for the team.
Rounding out the scoring for UT Tyler on the day was
Randy Canady and
Aaron Smith as they also placed just seconds apart in 89
th and 98
th, respectively.
Canady took home 49 placement points in his time of 26:45.7 while Smith earned 66 points in a time of 27:16.2

The Patriots will now get a couple of weeks off as they next take to the course on October 7
th for the DBU Old Glory Gallop. That event will be the final regular season run for the Patriots before the Lone Star Conference Championships on October 21.
