COACH WEBB PRESS CONFERENCE
On last week's LSC openers against St. Edward's and Midwestern State... "Against St. Edward's, that's exactly how we want to coach a team to play, we just have to figure out how not to hit the crossbar. We did it again on Saturday, we hit the crossbar four times, missed a one-v-one and missed two wide open goals. Where we were at at the beginning of the year, playing free and relaxed, we need to get back to that. We've kind of tensed up, so we've got to get that fixed. We're playing some really good soccer right now, we just need to finish."
On what the team needs to do against St. Mary's and Eastern New Mexico to get back into the win column... "Honestly the message really came after the Midwestern State game. That was a really big game for us and fueled a fire that I have not seen in this team. Afterwards, the leadership of the group and where they took the postgame talk is everything that we needed to get back on track. They're focused. I would say that they feel like they have something to prove. We know St. Mary's is going to be good, they've always been at the top of the conference, and then Eastern New Mexico at Eastern New Mexico is going to be a very tough team to play against. We've got to focus on us and be the best version of ourselves."
LAST TIME OUT
A meeting between two top Lone Star Conference foes ended Midwestern State's way with a 2-1 decision on Saturday morning in Wichita Falls, Texas. The Patriots scored seven minutes into the second half on a penalty kick from
Marin Love, but two goals from the Mustangs to close out the match resulted in UT Tyler's first defeat in 2024. UT Tyler moves to 5-1-1 on the year and 0-1-1 in Lone Star Conference play. Both teams established a good pace to the match as they combined for 34 shot attempts, 19 of which came from the Patriots.
The UT Tyler women's soccer team earned a result in their Lone Star Conference opener last Wednesday night with a 0-0 tie against St. Edward's. The Patriots rattled the post twice, once in each half, and controlled possession for the majority of the contest. With the result, the Patriots have gotten off to the best start in program history with a 5-0-1 record through their first six matches of 2024. Senior
Launa Torrez put forth a quality chance in the 18
th minute on the Patriot's first shot attempt of the night. That effort was answered by the Hilltoppers keeper, but generated momentum for UT Tyler to the tune of four first half shots. Freshman
Ella Anderson found the woodwork for the first time in the match for the Patriots in the 38
th minute, the first of her two shot attempts in the waning minutes of the first half.
