WHAT COACH WEBB IS SAYING
On the key factors that went into UT Tyler's pair of wins last week... "Well first and foremost we're scoring goals, so I love that, but we're really just paying attention to the details. We have a veteran group this year and they're leading really well, especially with things that we've struggled with in the past. Scouting reports are important and we have to understand what we are up against, but at the end of the day we have to execute our own game plan."
On staying focused as the team finds itself in the hunt for postseason contention... "We haven't really thought about it. We have to win today. We have two quality opponents this week, but we've got to get better today. If we do that, all of that stuff will take care of itself. We can't fixate on things we can't control, so we've got to do some work today because we have good opponents this week."
On DBU and UT Permian Basin as opponents... "DBU is DBU. They're going to be well-coached and well-organized. They're going to have a plan, they've already picked out our weaknesses and he's got a plan for those and they've also picked out our strengths and he's got a plan for those as well. They have a lot of talent, but at the end of the day we have to do our job. Then we turn around and we have UT Permian Basin at home. They are very hard to play. A couple of weeks ago Oklahoma Christian tied DBU and then turned around and lost to UT Permian Basin 3-0, so we know we have two very good opponents with two totally different styles, so it's on us to get ready to play."
LAST TIME OUT
UT Tyler went on the road and dominated from start-to-finish in a 2-0 victory over Eastern New Mexico on Saturday afternoon. The Patriots secured all six available points towards their Lone Star Conference standing with the victory after out-scoring St. Mary's and Eastern New Mexico by a 5-to-0 margin in the two matches. Junior
Natalie Jones assisted both goals on Saturday, rattling a shot off the post that led to the first goal of the game and then closed out the match and the week by beating Eastern New Mexico down the sideline to set up an eventual goal by graduate student
Samaris Alvarado. Junior
Brooke Mullins put the first goal away after Jones found the top woodwork, heading home a goal just under 10 minutes into the game. Eastern New Mexico put their first and only shot on target in the fifth minute, but managed very little offensive pressure past that point as the Patriots out-shot the Greyhounds by a 21-to-9 margin.
UT Tyler scored an impressive 3-0 victory on Wednesday night over a St. Mary's squad that entered the night unbeaten in Lone Star Conference play. The Patriots added a pair of goals in the first half to take a 2-0 advantage into the halftime break and then then leaned on a defensive effort that notched a clean sheet while adding a penalty kick goal late. All three scores came from a different Patriot, while freshman
Ella Anderson added two assists in the match. Anderson touched a great ball onto the foot of
Natalie Jones to get the scoring started in the 25
th minute for UT Tyler. Jones converted her fifth goal of the year past the Rattler keeper on the fourth shot on target between the two sides of the opening 25 minutes of play. UT Tyler added a key score just before the halftime break on a great combined effort in the St. Mary's box. Anderson maintained control of a
Jacqueline Wiebe cross with a physical touch on the opposite post that rattled off the knee of
Samaris Alvarado, onto the foot of
Launa Torrez and into the back of the net. That Torrez volley with just over two minutes left in the first half allowed UT Tyler to focus on their defensive composure in the second half with the two-goal advantage in hand before
Brooke Mullins converted a penalty kick in the 80
th minute for the third and final score of the night.
