Cross Country Ready to Run in South Central Region Championships

The Patriots will have a chance to qualify for nationals this weekend as they take on the South Central Regional Championships on Saturday morning.

LAST TIME OUT

The Patriots last competed back on October 26th at the LSC Championships. There, the men's program placed 6th and the women's program 8th after solid runs from both teams. Sophomore David Soto finished seventh overall on the men's side, solidifying his second consecutive All-LSC selection. On the women's side, freshman Macy Cogburn placed 20th overall and narrowly missed out on All-LSC honors.

WHAT COACH SHEPHERD IS SAYING

On the results of the LSC Championships: "It was a good weekend. David did great, All-LSC once again. Brandon and Alejandro stepped up a lot for us. Macy crushed it on the women's side for us. 10th last year to 8th this year, so they're only getting better and better.

On the tough schedule preparing the team: "I told them all year if we can compete in these regular season races and do well, it will prepare us for the postseason. We had some people train in Colorado this summer so they understand the altitude, but it's one of those things where you go out and run as well as you can."

On the regional meet schedule: "Last Thursday was our last semi-hard workout. We will leave on Thursday and Friday we will go check out the course and get ready for the meet. It's supposed to snow some of the week and the course will probably be sloppy, but that's what makes it fun."

THE NCAA SOUTH CENTRAL REGION CHAMPIONSHIPS

This year's regional championships will take place in Denver, Colorado and be hosted by MSU Denver. 30 total teams will take part in the championships, with 15 each from the LSC and the RMAC.

The race itself will be at Washington Park in Denver. The men will face a 10K race beginning at 10 a.m. while the women will face a 6K race beginning at 11:15 a.m.

The top three finishing teams on both the men's and women's side will automatically qualify into the NCAA National Championships. Additionally, the top two individuals from non-qualifying teams will automatically make it, as do any individuals who finish in the top five overall. 10 total at-large teams and eight at-large individuals will be selected by the NCAA Cross Country Committee.
