Patriots Bested by 64-56 Final at Texas A&M International

LAREDO, TEXAS – Texas A&M International controlled the second half of action in order to hand UT Tyler a 64-56 loss on Saturday afternoon.
 
Guard Bryce Roberts poured in 20 points and freshman Jesse Fuller went for a career high 14 points for the Patriots, but Texas A&M International held the lead for the final 22 minutes of gametime. UT Tyler's last lead came with 3:14 remaining in the first half at 28-27, but a 9-2 run over the remainder of the opening half drew the halftime to a close with the Dustdevils ahead 36-30.
 
UT Tyler led by as many as five just over halfway through the first 20 minutes of play at 16-11 with 9:44 remaining. The Dustdevils connected on 12-of-24 (50 percent) from the field and 6-of-15 (40.0 percent) from beyond the three-point line in the first half.
 
Texas A&M International scored the first two buckets of the second half to open their first double-digit lead less than two minutes into the second half and never relinquished the advantage. UT Tyler closed the margin to a single possession just once over the final 20 minutes of action.
 
Roberts went 8-for-14 from the field and 2-of-5 from three in route to his fourth output of 20 or more points this season. Fuller's career-high came on a 6-for-8 effort from the field.
 
UT Tyler shot 50 percent (24-for-48) as a team,, but made just a trio of three point efforts in the game. Texas A&M International shot 40 percent (20-for-50) from the floor, but knocked down 8-of-28 (28.6 percent) from beyond the three-point arc.
 
U Tyler will return home for the final homestand of the year on Thursday and Saturday with games against UT Permian Basin and Angelo State.
