#5 UT Tyler wrapped up a fourth straight Lone Star Conference series sweep on Wednesday afternoon with 8-2 and 2-1 victories over Texas Woman's at Irwin Field. The Patriots extended their season win streak to 13 straight, and their home winning streak to 43 straight. Freshman

#5 UT Tyler scored five runs off nine hits in their first three trips to the plate to win 6-2 over Texas Woman's on Tuesday night. The Patriots notched three hits in each of the first three innings to sprint out to the quick lead and then leaned on starter
Kaylee Davis' sixth straight complete game in the circle in the late innings. The win is the 41
st consecutive victory on their home field for UT Tyler, the longest active streak in all of Division II softball. Senior
Cassidi Mullen went 3-for-3 with a run scored and
Courtney Plocheck and
Makayla Garcia each posted a pair of hits to lead a UT Tyler offense that totaled 11 hits in the ball game. Junior
JT Smith rounded out the five Patriots that posted multi-hit efforts with a 2-for-4 day at the plate.
PATRIOTS NEWS AND NOTES
- #5 UT Tyler is set to travel to Oklahoma City this weekend for a three-game stand against Oklahoma Christian winners of 13 straight. The Patriots have swept four consecutive Lone Star Conference series entering the weekend and stand in solo second place in the Lone Star Conference regular season standings with a record of 14-4.
- The Patriots extended their home winning streak to 43 straight with the wins over UT Permian Basin last week. The Patriots are 9-0 at Irwin Field this season and have outscored their opposition by a 59-to-10 margin in those contests.
- UT Tyler is 6-3 this year against teams associated with the NFCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll.
- The University of Texas at Tyler softball team moved to no. 5 in the latest edition of the 2024 NFCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll as announced by the organization on Tuesday morning. The Patriots overtook Grand Valley State for the no. 5 spot after earning 329 total votes. North Georgia earned all 16 first-place votes to remain in the no. 1 spot, followed by West Texas A&M, Rogers State and Tampa in the no. 2 through no. 4 spots. West Texas A&M, who sits atop the LSC standings, stood as the highest of the three ranked LSC teams at no. 2 along with UT Tyler (no. 5) and Angelo State (no. 24).
- UT Tyler is 8-2 all-time against Oklahoma Christian having won eight straight in the series after dropping the inaugural meetings between the two programs back in 2021. The two teams met five times last season, including meetings in the LSC Softball Championships final and the NCAA Division II South Central Regionals. The Patriots got the better of Oklahoma Christian in all five of those meetings.
- UT Tyler leads the Lone Star Conference and ranks 17th nationally with a 1.76 staff ERA.
Kaylee Davis,
Crimson Bryant and
Genesis Armendariz have all posted ERA's below 2.00 on the season. Davis sits a perfect 7-0 on the year with a team best 1.14 ERA on the year.
Christin Haygood, who earned the win after a shutdown performance in relief of UT Permian Basin on Wednesday, hasn't allowed an earned run in her last four appearances. Davis ranks second in the LSC with that 1.14 ERA and has held opponents to a league best .175 batting average as well.
- The UT Tyler offense ranks second in the LSC with a team average of .337 on the year. Senior
Cassidi Mullen leads the team and ranks fifth in the LSC with an average of .476 for the year.
Courtney Plocheck (.429) and
Makayla Garcia (.423) both ranked within the top 10 in the league in batting average as well as Plocheck ranks seventh and Garcia eighth.
- UT Tyler softball is in the midst of the 20th year of the program with an all-time record of 778-148 (.841) dating back to the inaugural 2005 campaign. The Patriots are 183-30 (.865) in four seasons of Division II play and have gone 111-16 (.889) in Lone Star Conference games over that timeframe. UT Tyler has finished as Division II National Semifinalists in both seasons of Division II postseason eligibility in 2022 and 2023.
- The Patriots have won 50-plus games in two seasons after going 50-5 back in 2015 and have not registered double-digit losses in a season in 12 straight years.
- UT Tyler has made 12 appearances in an NCAA National Championship Tournament between the Division II and III levels, and have advanced to the NCAA World Series in nine of those 12 trips.
- Head coach
Mike Reed and his staff garnered ATEC/NFCA South Central Regional Coaching Staff of the Year honors for a third consecutive season. The honors come in each of the first three complete seasons at the NCAA Division II level. Coach Reed and his staff have been named regional staff of the year by the NFCA on nine different occasions (2023, 2022, 2021, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2013, 2009) dating back to the program's inaugural season in 2005.
- Head coach
Mike Reed is in his 20th season at the helm of the program after previously serving for three seasons as the head coach at East Texas Baptist before taking over at UT Tyler. Reed ranks fourth among all NCAA divisions in career winning percentage (.825), posting a 881-178 career mark through 22 career seasons. He owns the second-highest all-time win percentage among Division III coaches, coaching 18 of his 20 seasons at the Division III level, and is a nine-time American Southwest Conference Coach of the Year, and seven-time NFCA Regional Coach of the Year. He has helped develop 36 All-Americans, 103 all-region and 162 all-conference selections and has led the UT Tyler program to the NCAA World Series in nine of the 13 years since the Patriots became postseason eligible in Division III.
- The home of UT Tyler softball has been recognized as a 2023 Netting Professionals/NFCA Field of the Year honoree by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. Irwin Field received recognition as the top softball facility across the Division II landscape as one of seven facilities across seven different levels to earn the award. Opened in 2005, Irwin Field is a continuous host of NCAA postseason competition. The facility has hosted two Division III national championship tournaments, along with 10 regional and six super regional rounds. This award, made possible by NFCA Official Sponsor Netting Professionals, recognizes top fields/stadiums in the nation for their flawless grounds maintenance and exceptional playing surfaces. These locations are selected by the NFCA Awards Committee for NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Cal JC, NWAC, and High School. The winners were nominated by NFCA member coaches and selected by a panel of their peers on the NFCA Awards Committee.
