LAST TIME OUT

#6 UT Tyler scored in all five trips to the plate and run-ruled Western New Mexico by a 15-2 final in five innings to close out a series sweep. Nicole Price and Courtney Plocheck both had three hits to help lead UT Tyler to 15 hits in the ball game in what is now the 10th win in a row for the Patriots. Freshman Crimson Bryant collected the win to move to 8-2 on the year after going 4.1 innings in the circle with five strikeouts and two earned runs. Plocheck drove in three runs on the afternoon on two of her three singles in the game, while Price scored three times and hit one of the four doubles for UT Tyler.

The #6 UT Tyler offense carried the Patriots to wins no. 8 and 9 in a row on Saturday afternoon with 7-4 and 24-6 victories over Western New Mexico. The Patriots totaled eight extra-base hits in the game one victory, three of which came off the bat of Nicole Price, and then matched the second highest single game hit total in the history of the program with 24 in game two. Those 24 hits are the most in a single game in the Division II era for UT Tyler and paved the way for a 24-run outburst, 12 of which came in the Patriot's final trip to the plate. Price went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a triple in game one while Sam Schott and JT Smith both had five hits in game two. Schott went 5-for-6 with three runs scored and Smith a perfect 5-for-5 with five RBI and three runs scored.

PATRIOT NEWS AND NOTES

- #5 UT Tyler will carry a 10-game winning streak alongside for the final regular season road trip of the 2024 season this weekend. The Patriots will travel to Laredo, Texas for a meeting with Texas A&M International, who provided top-ranked West Texas A&M a stiff test at Dustdevil Softball Field to the tune of 2-1, 1-0, 4-0 victories for the Lady Buffs. The Dustdevils are well tested in 2024 and will be a tough out on Senior Weekend at their home ballpark.
- The Patriots are seemingly elevating their play heading into what will be a vital stretch of softball over the course of the final two weeks of the regular season. UT Tyler has won 10 straight, including three consecutive Lone Star Conference series sweeps, and are coming off of a weekend in which they outscored Western New Mexico by a 46-12 margin. West Texas A&M has rattled off eight straight victories to maintain the advantage atop the Lone Star Conference regular season standings ahead of UT Tyler. The Lady Buffs have six games remaining on the regular season schedule and sit 33-3 in league play, while UT Tyler has nine games remaining and sits 28-5 in conference play. The top 10 teams at season's end will qualify for the 2024 Lone Star Conference Softball Championship Tournament to be hosted by the no. 1 overall seed on May 9-11.
- The race for qualification and seeding in the NCAA Division II National Tournament will heat up as well with the season winding down. Eight teams from the South Central Region will compete in the 2024 NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament. The winners of the LSC Softball Championship Tournament and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship Tournament will earn automatic bids into the eight-team field, while the remaining six teams will be selected as at-large bids. The South Central Regional Tournament will take place at the no. 1 and no. 2 seed's host sites on May 9-11, with the two winners of each side of the bracket advancing to meet in a best-of-three series on May 15-16 in the NCAA Division II South Central Super Regionals.
- UT Tyler is 8-1 all-time against Texas A&M International and have won seven straight in the series. The Patriots are 2-0 all-time in Laredo, both of which contests took place back in 2021.
- UT Tyler is 6-3 this year against teams associated with the NFCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll.
- The University of Texas at Tyler softball team jumped back into the top five of the latest 2024 NFCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll in the no. 5 slot as announced by the organization on Tuesday morning. The Patriots moved up one spot with 335 votes in this week's poll after three straight weeks in the no. 6 slot. West Texas A&M stayed as the unanimous no. 1 while Tampa, Indianapolis and North Georgia occupied the three spots ahead of UT Tyler.
- A deep pitching staff continues to serve as the strength of the Patriots in 2024. UT Tyler ranks 15th in all of Division II softball and second the Lone Star Conference with a 1.91 staff ERA. What makes that metric even more impressive is that the Patriots have used four different arms with regularity, as four different Patriots have tossed 50-plus innings so far this season. Three of those individuals have produced sub 2.00 ERA, with the lone exception Genesis Armendariz having thrown the most innings this season with 109.0. Armendariz sports a 2.06 ERA. Christin Haygood (1.79) and Crimson Bryant (1.77) both rank within the top five in ERA in the LSC season.
- A UT Tyler offense that notched the highest single game hit total of the Division II era last weekend in a game two victory over Western New Mexico with 24, ranks second in the LSC with a team average of .348 on the year. UT Tyler ranks third nationally with a team on-base percentage of .443 for the year. The Patriots have drawn the ninth most walks (175) and rank 15th in all of Division II with an average of 7.25 runs per game.
- UT Tyler has been elite in the field as well, posting the ninth highest fielding percentage in the country (.976) and the eighth highest total of double plays turned (20).
- Courtney Plocheck leads the team with a .404 average on the year, fifth best in the Lone Star Conference. Sam Schott ranks second in the league and leads the team with 52 runs scored.
- - UT Tyler softball is in the midst of the 20th year of the program with an all-time record of 790-150 (.840) dating back to the inaugural 2005 campaign. The Patriots are 195-32 (.865) in four seasons of Division II play and have gone 122-17 (.889) in Lone Star Conference games over that timeframe. UT Tyler has finished as Division II National Semifinalists in both seasons of Division II postseason eligibility in 2022 and 2023.
- The Patriots have won 50-plus games in two seasons after going 50-5 back in 2015 and have not registered double-digit losses in a season in 12 straight years.
- UT Tyler has made 12 appearances in an NCAA National Championship Tournament between the Division II and III levels, and have advanced to the NCAA World Series in nine of those 12 trips.
- Head coach Mike Reed and his staff garnered ATEC/NFCA South Central Regional Coaching Staff of the Year honors for a third consecutive season. The honors come in each of the first three complete seasons at the NCAA Division II level. Coach Reed and his staff have been named regional staff of the year by the NFCA on nine different occasions (2023, 2022, 2021, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2013, 2009) dating back to the program's inaugural season in 2005.
- Head coach Mike Reed is in his 20th season at the helm of the program after previously serving for three seasons as the head coach at East Texas Baptist before taking over at UT Tyler. Reed ranks fourth among all NCAA divisions in career winning percentage (.831), posting a 898-181 career mark through 22 career seasons. He owns the second-highest all-time win percentage among Division III coaches, coaching 18 of his 20 seasons at the Division III level, and is a nine-time American Southwest Conference Coach of the Year, and seven-time NFCA Regional Coach of the Year. He has helped develop 36 All-Americans, 103 all-region and 162 all-conference selections and has led the UT Tyler program to the NCAA World Series in nine of the 13 years since the Patriots became postseason eligible in Division III.
