LAST TIME OUT

#5 UT Tyler put win no. 40 of the 2024 season in the books with an 11-1 run-rule victory over Texas A&M International on Sunday afternoon. The victory is the 13th in a row for the Patriots and secured an 11th straight Lone Star Conference series victory in the process. UT Tyler led 8-0 after the first three innings and used a trio of arms in the circle to limit Texas A&M International to just three hits on the day. Sam Schott and JT Smith both hit a pair of doubles and finished as two of four Patriots to go for multi-hit efforts in the game. UT Tyler posted 12 hits as a team, five of which went for extra bases.

Head coach Mike Reed earned his 900th career win on Saturday afternoon with 3-0 and 2-0 shutout victories over Texas A&M International. Christin Haygood and Genesis Armendariz both tossed complete game efforts in the two wins, combining to allow just seven hits on the afternoon. Reed notched his 900th career win with the 2-0 game two win, improving his career record to 900-181. Reed ranks second all-time across all levels of NCAA softball with a .832 career winning percentage in his 23 seasons a head coach.

PATRIOT NEWS AND NOTES

- The final week of the 2024 regular season will present #5 UT Tyler with a pair of home series against St. Mary's and Lubbock Christian. St. Mary's and Lubbock Christian begin the week fourth and sixth respectively in the Lone Star Conference regular season standings and have both made consecutive appearances in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament.
- The Patriots have won 13 straight games and have swept four straight Lone Star Conference series. UT Tyler sits second in the Lone Star Conference regular season standings, four games back of first place West Texas A&M. The Lady Buffs have just three games remaining, while UT Tyler has six remaining. The top 10 teams at season's end will qualify for the 2024 Lone Star Conference Softball Championship Tournament to be hosted by the no. 1 overall seed on May 9-11. 
- The race for qualification and seeding in the NCAA Division II National Tournament is officially underway. Eight teams from the South Central Region will compete in the 2024 NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament. The winners of the LSC Softball Championship Tournament and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship Tournament will earn automatic bids into the eight-team field, while the remaining six teams will be selected as at-large bids. The South Central Regional Tournament will take place at the no. 1 and no. 2 seed's host sites on May 9-11, with the two winners of each side of the bracket advancing to meet in a best-of-three series on May 15-16 in the NCAA Division II South Central Super Regionals. 
- UT Tyler is 7-0 all-time against St. Mary's and 2-0 at Irwin Field. St. Mary's will be returning to Irwin Field for the first time since 2021 on Tuesday and Wednesday.
- The University of Texas at Tyler softball team jumped back into the top five of the latest 2024 NFCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll in the no. 5 slot as announced by the organization on Tuesday morning.The Patriots moved up one spot with 335 votes in this week's poll after three straight weeks in the no. 6 slot. West Texas A&M stayed as the unanimous no. 1 while Tampa, Indianapolis and North Georgia occupied the three spots ahead of UT Tyler.
- UT Tyler softball is in the midst of the 20th year of the program with an all-time record of 793-150 (.840) dating back to the inaugural 2005 campaign. The Patriots are 198-32 (.865) in four seasons of Division II play and have gone 125-17 (.889) in Lone Star Conference games over that timeframe. UT Tyler has finished as Division II National Semifinalists in both seasons of Division II postseason eligibility in 2022 and 2023.
- The Patriots have won 50-plus games in two seasons after going 50-5 back in 2015 and have not registered double-digit losses in a season in 12 straight years. 
- UT Tyler has made 12 appearances in an NCAA National Championship Tournament between the Division II and III levels, and have advanced to the NCAA World Series in nine of those 12 trips.
- Head coach Mike Reed and his staff garnered ATEC/NFCA South Central Regional Coaching Staff of the Year honors for a third consecutive season. The honors come in each of the first three complete seasons at the NCAA Division II level. Coach Reed and his staff have been named regional staff of the year by the NFCA on nine different occasions (2023, 2022, 2021, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2013, 2009) dating back to the program's inaugural season in 2005. 
- Head coach Mike Reed is in his 20th season at the helm of the program after previously serving for three seasons as the head coach at East Texas Baptist before taking over at UT Tyler. Reed ranks fourth among all NCAA divisions in career winning percentage (.831), posting a 901-181 career mark through 22 career seasons. He owns the second-highest all-time win percentage among Division III coaches, coaching 18 of his 20 seasons at the Division III level, and is a nine-time American Southwest Conference Coach of the Year, and seven-time NFCA Regional Coach of the Year. He has helped develop 36 All-Americans, 103 all-region and 162 all-conference selections and has led the UT Tyler program to the NCAA World Series in nine of the 13 years since the Patriots became postseason eligible in Division III.
