LAST TIME OUT

#4 UT Tyler turned a one-run game through five innings of play into a 10-0 run-rule victory over St. Mary's on Wednesday afternoon. The Patriots plated nine runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to close out the series sweep of St. Mary's and extended their win streak to 16 straight. Graduate student Genesis Armendariz went 5.0 innings before turning the ball over to Christin Haygood in the sixth, who retired three Rattlers in a row despite inheriting runners on second and third with no outs. UT Tyler totaled 10 of their 12 hits in the game in the final two trips to the plate, eight of which came in the bottom of the sixth inning. Four different Patriots notched two hits in the game, including Courtney Plocheck and JT Smith, who hit the two UT Tyler homers. The Patriots have swept five straight Lone Star Conference opponents with the win over St. Mary's.

Christin Haygood and Genesis Armendariz shined in the circle for #4 UT Tyler in 4-1 and 5-0 victories over St. Mary's on Tuesday afternoon. Both Patriot starters went the complete game and didn't allow a single extra-base hit. UT Tyler scored four unanswered runs in the fifth and sixth innings of game one and then rode an early trio of runs in the bottom of the first in game two.

PATRIOTS NEWS AND NOTES

- UT Tyler opened the final week of the regular season with a convincing three-game sweep on Tuesday and Wednesday over a St. Mary's team ranked no. 7 in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Rankings. The Patriots now enter Senior Weekend one game back of West Texas A&M in the Lone Star Conference standings. The Lady Buffs will play a three-game series against Angelo State on their home field this weekend and hold the tie breaker over the Patriots after winning the series earlier in the season. The top 10 teams at season's end will qualify for the 2024 Lone Star Conference Softball Championship Tournament to be hosted by the no. 1 overall seed on May 9-11. 
- The Patriots will take on a Lubbock Christian team that will playing for a lot this weekend in terms of both LSC Regular Season Standings and their NCAA South Central Regional fate. The Lady Chaps sit eighth in the NCAA DII South Central Regional Rankings and in a three-way tie for fifth in the Lone Star Conference standings. UT Tyler is 7-3 all-time against Lubbock Christian and have won five straight in the series. 
- The UT Tyler softball program will recognize six seniors prior to first pitch on Saturday in Michelle Arias, Courtney Plocheck, Cassidi Mullen, Audrey Escamilla, Genesis Armendariz and Tara Stewart.
- The University of Texas at Tyler softball program sits no. 2 in the first ranked edition of the 2024 NCAA Division II South Central Regional rankings as announced by the regional advisory committee on Wednesday afternoon. Wednesday's rankings are the second of three regional rankings that will be released prior to the selection of the 2024 NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament field on Monday, May 6th. The winners of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) and Lone Star Conference (LSC) Postseason Tournaments will receive the two automatic qualifying bids into the tournament, while the final six teams of the eight-team field will receive at-large bids based on the top six remaining highest teams in the South Central Regional Rankings. The eight-team bracket will be split into two brackets, one at each of the top two ranked teams in the rankings host site on May 9-11, with the winners of each side of the bracket advancing to the NCAA Division II Super Regionals on May 15-16. The winner of that Super Regional Tournament will advance to the NCAA Division II World Series scheduled for May 19-25 in Orlando, Fla. 
- The University of Texas at Tyler softball program continued their ascent in the 2024 NFCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll moving into the no. 4 spot of this week's poll. The Patriots received 344 votes to move into their highest position in the national poll of the 2024 season. West Texas A&M, Indianapolis and Tampa all earned first-place votes to sit no. 1, no. 2 and no. 3 ahead of UT Tyler. The 2024 NFCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll is voted on by the NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll Committee. The committee consists of 16 NCAA Division II head coaches with two representing each of the NCAA's eight regions.
- UT Tyler softball is in the midst of the 20th year of the program with an all-time record of 793-150 (.840) dating back to the inaugural 2005 campaign. The Patriots are 201-32 (.865) in four seasons of Division II play and have gone 128-17 (.889) in Lone Star Conference games over that timeframe. UT Tyler has finished as Division II National Semifinalists in both seasons of Division II postseason eligibility in 2022 and 2023.
- The Patriots have won 50-plus games in two seasons after going 50-5 back in 2015 and have not registered double-digit losses in a season in 12 straight years. 
- UT Tyler has made 12 appearances in an NCAA National Championship Tournament between the Division II and III levels, and have advanced to the NCAA World Series in nine of those 12 trips.
- Head coach Mike Reed and his staff garnered ATEC/NFCA South Central Regional Coaching Staff of the Year honors for a third consecutive season. The honors come in each of the first three complete seasons at the NCAA Division II level. Coach Reed and his staff have been named regional staff of the year by the NFCA on nine different occasions (2023, 2022, 2021, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2013, 2009) dating back to the program's inaugural season in 2005. 
- Head coach Mike Reed is in his 20th season at the helm of the program after previously serving for three seasons as the head coach at East Texas Baptist before taking over at UT Tyler. Reed ranks fourth among all NCAA divisions in career winning percentage (.831), posting a 904-181 career mark through 22 career seasons. He owns the second-highest all-time win percentage among Division III coaches, coaching 18 of his 20 seasons at the Division III level, and is a nine-time American Southwest Conference Coach of the Year, and seven-time NFCA Regional Coach of the Year. He has helped develop 36 All-Americans, 103 all-region and 162 all-conference selections and has led the UT Tyler program to the NCAA World Series in nine of the 13 years since the Patriots became postseason eligible in Division III.
