Alvidrez Notches 100th Career Win as #6/7 Patriots Dispatch Aggies

The Patriots took care of business on Thursday evening as they took down Cameron to sweep the season series.

TYLER, TEXAS – UT Tyler women's basketball head coach Rebecca Alvidrez earned career win number 100 on Thursday night as she led the #6/7 Patriots to a dominant 74-53 win over Cameron.

Alvidrez is now 100-47 in her career and a fantastic 91-28 in her time at UT Tyler that dates back to the 2021-22 season.

The Patriots shot 50% from the field and scored at least 15 points in every quarter while also holding the Aggies to just 36.5% from the field and 19.4% from beyond the arc to complete a strong effort on both sides of the ball.

Mileina Sablinskaite led the Patriots with 16 points on the night as she buried four first half three pointers while adding in five rebounds and a team-high four steals on the night. She was joined in double figures by Ella Bradley who scored 15 points on 6-for-8 shooting as she posted a team-high seven assists and added three steals. Mariah Neal added 11 points on a perfect 4-for-4 shooting and two made three pointers.

Sablinskaite made each of her first two three pointers and added a third at the 6:42 mark of the first quarter as the Patriots raced out to a 12-5 advantage. That lead grew to 18-12 by the end of the first quarter as Tianna Knighton and Jill Lungren Phipps added in late jumpers as the Patriots capped off a 41% shooting first period, their worst of the night.

A 5-0 run from the Aggies cut the lead down to just one with 8:42 left in the first half, but the Patriots used another huge three pointer from Sablinskaite to kickstart a 15-9 run to close out the half that saw six points from Bradley while the defense forced six turnovers and grabbed four steals.

The second half kicked off with a bang as the Patriots outscored the Aggies 22-13 as Neal scored all 11 of her points in the period. They shot 50% from the field in the period and made a pair of three pointers, but the big key was the defense as they forced seven turnovers in the period and held the Aggies to just four made shots.

That big effort spilled over into the fourth quarter as the Patriots shot a blistering 60% in the final quarter of play while holding Cameron to just 31% from the field. They would outscore the Aggies 19-14 in the period as they coasted to a big 21 point win.

The Patriots held a 35-29 advantage in rebounds, a 23-11 advantage in assists, a 32-12 advantage in bench points, a 26-2 advantage in points off turnovers, and a 44-24 advantage in points in the paint.

UT Tyler now looks ahead to a Saturday afternoon matchup with Oklahoma Christian as they look to sweep the season series against the Eagles.
