PATRIOTS NOTES AND TRENDS
  • UT Tyler finished the 2024-25 season 25-5 overall and made their third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance before bowing out in the first round.
  • Last season the Patriots finished 13-1 on their home floor, raising their mark to 61-8 under head coach Rebecca Alvidrez inside the Herrington Patriot Center.
  • In the last four seasons (including 2024-25), the Patriots are a combined 31-13 in non-conference matchups, including a 12-3 record at home in non-conference games.
  • Head Coach Rebecca Alvidrez is now 109-52 all time in her four season career, and she is 99-33 in her time at UT Tyler.
  • Coach Alvidrez won her 100th career game on January 30th, 2025 as the Patriots took down Cameron. It took just 148 games for Alvidrez to reach the milestone, and she is now in her fifth season as a head coach.
  • The Patriots will bring back just five players, including All-LSC Honorable Mention player Polina Latysheva, along with Mileina SablinskaiteMariah NealKK Bass, and Zionna Barbee.
  • Joining the Patriots will be freshman newcomers Leila DavisHayley CummingMackenzie MitchellGeorgia TomkinsEdit MerivirtaAvery AlcarazJorja Hart, and Salome Svani. The transfer class includes Lilli Hakkarainen and Nikolina Vukcevic as they all look to make a big impact on the Patriots this season.
  • The #20 Patriots are 1-2 through three games while shooting 36.6% from the field and 27.5% from deep while grabbing 30.7 rebounds per game and forcing 16.3 turnovers per game.
  • Polina Latysheva and Mariah Neal lead the offense thus far, scoring 11.0 and 10.3 points per game while Latysheva leads the team in assists and steals.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
 
Mileina Sablinskaite was named Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts over the opening weekend for the Patriots. She scooped 10 rebounds in the Patriots win over Colorado School of Mines while adding six points, one block, and one steal. For the weekend she averaged two steals per game, 4.7 rebounds, and 5.7 points.
 
NATIONAL AND CONFERENCE ATTENTION
 
In the preseason edition of the WBCA Coaches Poll, UT Tyler was ranked #20, marking the third straight season the Patriots have been inside the top 25 to begin the year.
 
In the Lone Star Conference Preseason Poll, the Patriots were selected #3, trailing only Texas Woman's and Lubbock Christian. UT Tyler garnered eight first place votes in the poll and 761 total points, only 15 behind second place Lubbock Christian.
 
THE 2024-2025 CAMPAIGN
 
The Patriots qualified for their third straight NCAA Tournament last season and their fourth straight LSC Tournament before bowing out in the first round in each tournament.
 
UT Tyler went 25-5 overall and 20-2 in LSC play, narrowly missing out on a share of the LSC Regular Season title. On their way to that record, they also garnered their highest ranking of the Division II era, a #4 ranking in the WBCA Poll in February.


THE THUNDERWOLVES
 
CSU Pueblo also participated in the DII CCA Tip-Off Classic at the Trailhead, going 1-2 with a win over Nebraska Kearney before falling to MSU Billings and Mary.
 
 
The Thunderwolves are averaging 63.7 points per game on 37.4% shooting and 27.1% from beyond the arc. Seneya Martinez and Genesis Sweetwine lead the offense, averaging 17 and 16 points per game through the first three games while each shooting above 50%.
 
The two teams have meet three times, once in each of the last three years as part of the South Central Region Challenge. The Patriots are 2-1 in those games, winning the most recent meeting in 2024.
 
THE COUGARS
 
Colorado Christian has yet to play this season and will open their year with matchups against #13 Lubbock Christian and #20 UT Tyler this weekend. They went 10-18 overall last year and 8-12 in RMAC play.
 
They averaged 65.3 points per game last season on 38.9% shooting and 31.1% from beyond the arc while allowing their opponents to shoot 41.6% from the floor and score 66.6 points per game.
 
Each of the top six scorers have moved on from the Cougars, with Elise Grosdidier being the top returner at 8.9 points per game on 41.8% shooting while posting 22 steals, 28 assists, and 3.9 rebounds per game.
 
The Patriots are 1-2 against the Cougars all-time, with their first win coming last year by a score of 61-56.
 
LAST TIME OUT
 
The Patriots went 1-2 at the DII CCA Tip-Off Classic at the Trailhead in Billings, Montana last week. The Patriots took down Colorado School of Mines in their opening match and then fell to Mary and Nebraska Kearney. Polina Latysheva was named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts.
