TYLER, TEXAS – (RV) UT Tyler women's basketball moved to 3-3 on the year after a 70-42 win over Jarvis Christian on Friday for Elementary School Day inside the Herrington Patriot Center.
The Patriots shot 40% for the game while holding the Bulldogs to just 32.4% from the field and forcing them into 32 total turnovers in a defensive clinic. That 32 turnover mark is the highest in a single game for a UT Tyler opponent since Dallas Christian had 32 back on November 16, 2024.
The Patriots got off to a hot start, outscoring the Bulldogs 18-8 over the first quarter as
Mileina Sablinskaite went 3-for-3 from the field while nabbing five steals in that period alone. Both
Hayley Cumming and
Leila Davis each added three points in the frame for the big lead.
The Bulldogs fought back in the second, outscoring the Patriots 13-12 as the offense went cold. The Patriots would lean on
Polina Latysheva, who scored eight points on 3-for-5 shooting in the quarter to lead the team to a nine point lead at the halftime break.
The third quarter would see the Patriots begin to stretch their legs offensively, shooting 40% as a team as five different players recorded a point.
Nikolina Vukcevic scored seven points by herself as the team defense ramped up to holding the Bulldogs to just 2-for-10 in the frame.
In the fourth and final quarter of the day, UT Tyler shot an even 50% from the field as they went 10-for-20 as a team. Cumming would light up the frame, scoring eight points on 4-for-6 shooting as six different players recorded a point while the team hit four three pointers.
Polina Latysheva scored 16 points on 6-for-12 from the field while adding nine assists and six steals. Cumming added 13 points and five rebounds and Sablinskaite added 11 more with five boards and eight steals.
The Patriots in their 32 turnovers forced scored 28 points and held a 23 point advantage in the category. They also led 18-3 in fast break points, and 21-2 in assists.
UT Tyler now gets a week off before welcoming Dallas Christian for a matchup on Friday, November 28
th at 2 p.m.
