LAST TIME OUT
Last weekend the Patriots put together the finishing touches on an 8-0 homestand as they went 4-0 with sweeps over Texas A&M International and Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Patriots gave up just four runs in total over the weekend while also delivering a pair of shutouts.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kaylee Davis was instrumental in the 4-0 weekend, earning a win and a save in the pair of appearances she made. Her weekend began on Friday, when she entered with two outs in the sixth inning of game two against the Dustdevils and promptly struck out three of the final four batters of the contest and earn the save. Against the Javelinas, Davis came on in the first inning and went 6.2 innings while allowing just two hits and no runs on the way to the win.
NATIONAL POLL
The Patriots remained the #1 team in this weeks NFCA/Go Rout Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll. They earned 13 of the 16 possible first place votes as the top 12 remained entirely unchanged. The LSC is represented by the #1 Patriots, #3 West Texas A&M, #4 Angelo State, and #18 Oklahoma Christian.
PATRIOTS NOTES AND TRENDS
- UT Tyler softball begins the 21st year of the program with an all-time record of 819-151 (.844) dating back to the inaugural 2005 campaign. The Patriots are 224-33 (.869) in five seasons of Division II play and have gone 134-17 (.887) in Lone Star Conference games over that timeframe prior to the 2025 season.
- The Patriots have won 50-plus games in the last two seasons after going 50-5 back in 2015 and have not registered double-digit losses in a season in 13 straight years.
- UT Tyler has made 13 appearances in an NCAA National Championship Tournament between the Division II and III levels, and have advanced to the NCAA World Series in 10 of those 13 trips.
- Head coach Mike Reed and his staff garnered ATEC/NFCA South Central Regional Coaching Staff of the Year honors for a fourth consecutive season. The honors come in each of the first four complete seasons at the NCAA Division II level. Coach Reed and his staff have been named regional staff of the year by the NFCA on 10 different occasions (2024,2023, 2022, 2021, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2013, 2009) dating back to the program's inaugural season in 2005.
- UT Tyler softball is 363-45 (.889) all-time on their home field at Irwin Field prior to the 2025 season, and completed the 2024 season with a 26-2 mark at their home ballpark. The Patriots are 102-8 (.927) in home Lone Star Conference games and have never lost more than six games at home in a season.
- JT Smith, Sam Schott, Taryn Barney, Angelique Rangel, Hailey Fannin, and Kaylee Davis mark a group of returners with national championship experience as they will look to lead a host of newcomers back to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth straight year.
- Head coach Mike Reed returns for his 21st season at the helm of the program after previously serving for three seasons as the head coach at East Texas Baptist before taking over at UT Tyler. Reed is 1st among all NCAA divisions in career winning percentage (.837), posting a 946-184 career mark in 24 career seasons. He owns the second-highest all-time win percentage among Division III coaches, coaching 18 of his 23 seasons at the Division III level, and is a nine-time American Southwest Conference Coach of the Year, and eight-time NFCA Regional Coach of the Year. He has helped develop 37 All-Americans, 112 all-region and 177 all-conference selections.
- The Patriots have been nothing short of dominant through their first 21 games. They have allowed more than three runs in a game just once while scoring at least three runs in all but three games. They are second in Division II in shutous with 11, and are top five in ERA, hit by pitches, on-base percentage, triples, WHIP, team strikeouts per seven innings, sacrifice bunts, slugging percentage, and fielding percentage.
- JT Smith is the Division II leader in triples and runs scored per game. Sam Schott leads in sacrifice bunts per game, and Kaylee Davis leads in hits allowed per seven innings, and WHIP, and is second in ERA.
AGGIES NOTES AND TRENDS
- Cameron is 15-13 on the year and 8-12 in LSC play and have won their last two contests, taking down Southeastern Oklahoma State in non-conference action on Tuesday.
- Haley Gardella is the team leader at the plate, hitting .469 on the year over 28 games. She has eight doubles and eight homers to go with 28 RBI and an on-base percentage of .537.
- In the circle, Stormee Reed is the leader with a 3.85 ERA among qualified pitchers. She has a 9-6 record and 11 complete games. She has thrown 87.1 innings while striking out 75 batters.
- Bryan Howard is the head coach and is in his first season with the Aggies. Previously he served as head coach at Missouri S&T, where he won the first conference championship in program history.
EAGLES NOTES AND TRENDS
- Oklahoma Christian is 19-11 on the year and 12-8 in LSC competition. They dropped a pair of non-conference games to #6 Rogers State on Tuesday, but have won their last two LSC contests.
- Leading the offensive effort is Marti Yaerger, who is hitting .404 on the year. She has five doubles and three triples while driving home 20 runs and scoring 20.
- Grace Anderson leads the pitching product for the Eagles. She has an ERA of 1.96 over 96.1 innings and has amassed a 10-4 record. She has struck out 105 batters and issued just 21 walks.
- Shalee Rodriguez is in her fourth season as a head coach, all with the Eagles. She has posted a record of 131-66 in those four seasons.
