Patriots to Take on Javelinas to Open LSC Tournament Run

The Patriots earned the #3 seed and will face the #6 seeded Javelinas to begin the LSC Tournament on Thursday.

Last week the Patriots squared off with Texas Woman's in another powerhouse clash between the two teams. The Patriots got rolling early and held leads after each of the first three quarters, but the Pioneers dug deep in the second half and completed the comeback to steal the late win.
 
NATIONAL POLLS
This week in the WBCA Top 25, the Patriots slipped back into a tie for fifth place after being ranked #4 last week. The Patriots are receiving 453 points in this week's poll. They are joined by #1 Texas Woman's and #11 Lubbock Christian from the Lone Star Conference, while #21 Colorado Mesa represents the RMAC.
 
In this week's D2CSC poll, the Patriots stand at #10 after being ranked #6 last week. They are joined in the poll by #1 Texas Woman's and #8 Lubbock Christian from the LSC, and #22 Colorado Mesa represents the RMAC.
 
LSC TOURNAMENT HISTORY
 
The Patriots are in the Lone Star Conference Tournament for the fourth straight season, one for each of the seasons that head coach Rebecca Alvidrez has been at the helm. The Patriots have made the LSC Tournament Semifinals each of the three years prior to this year while coming up just one win shy of their first ever LSC Tournament Championship Game appearance.
 
PATRIOTS NOTES AND TRENDS
  • UT Tyler finished the 2023-24 season 27-9 overall and made their second consecutive NCAA Sweet 16. That win mark is tied for the most in the NCAA Division II era of the program. The Patriots are the only team in the South Central Region to win a game in each of the last two NCAA Tournaments.
  • Last season the Patriots finished 13-2 on their home floor and are now 13-1 this season, raising their mark to 48-7 under head coach Rebecca Alvidrez inside the Herrington Patriot Center.
  • In the last four seasons (including 2024-25), the Patriots are a combined 31-13 in non-conference matchups, including a 12-3 record at home in non-conference games.
  • Head Coach Rebecca Alvidrez is now 107-48 all time in her four season career, and she is 98-29 in her time at UT Tyler.
  • Coach Alvidrez won her 100th career game on January 30th, 2025 as the Patriots took down Cameron. It took just 148 games for Alvidrez to reach the milestone, and she is in just her fifth season as a head coach.
  • The Patriots dominant defense has shown throughout the season yet again, as they rank inside the top 30 nationally in field goal percentage defense (5th), scoring defense (7th), scoring margin (22nd), and three point percentage defense (11th).
  • On the offensive side, the Patriots have hit their stride, now ranking inside the top 50 nationally in three pointers per game (12th), assist/turnover ratio (28th), assists per game (34th), and free throw percentage (23rd).
  • The Patriots have a variety of leaders on the floor thus far. Ella Bradley ranks inside the top 10 in the LSC in assist/turnover ratio (4th), assists (10th), steals (2nd), and steals per game (2nd). Meagan Mendazona is 8th in points per game, 7th in free throws, and 6th in free throw percentage. Lovisa Hevinder is grabbing the 7th most defensive rebounds per game while also knocking down the 11th most three pointers.
 
JAVELINAS NOTES AND TRENDS
  • Texas A&M-Kingsville heads into the postseason at 17-11 overall and 13-9 in LSC play. They have won two of their last three games, including a 82-63 win over Texas A&M International in their final regular season game.
  • This is the Javelinas first LSC postseason appearance since the 2023 season and just the second since 2019. The Javelinas have not won an LSC Tournament game since 2017.
  • The Javelinas are scoring 60.1 points per game while their opponents are scoring 55.1. They are shooting 43.8% from the floor and 33.5% from beyond the arc, and their opponents are shooting 37.3% from the field and 32.2% from deep.
  • Shelby Ray is the leader for the program, averaging 11.3 points per game on 48.3% shooting and leading the team in both rebounds and blocks.
  • Head coach Michael Madrid is in charge of the program and is in his sixth season. He has a career record of 77-77, all with the Javelinas.
