ARLINGTON, TEXAS – UT Tyler Women's Tennis collected six awards on Wednesday night at the LSC Tennis Awards Banquet. The honors included All-Academic Team, First and Second Team Singles, Second Team Doubles, Honorable Mention Singles, and the All-LSC Sportsmanship Team.
The first award of the night for the Patriots went to Kanika Sivaraman, who was named to the All-Academic Team for her achievements in her Mass Communication field of study.
Freshman Yona Bancarel earned three separate awards throughout the evening. Her first recognition was First Team Singles after compiling a 12-6 overall record, including an impressive 8 win mark in Lone Star Conference play, with just one loss in conference action. She was also named to the Second Team Doubles alongside teammate Natalia Gorzny, as the pair posted a 6-2 record during LSC play. Lastly, Bancarel was selected to the Sportsmanship Team for her positive attitude and exemplary conduct throughout the conference season.
Fellow freshman Natalia Gorzny picked up Second Team Singles and Second Team Doubles honors on Wednesday night. Gorzny finished with a 17-6 overall singles record, going 7-2 in LSC matches. In doubles, she partnered with Bancarel to earn a 6-2 record in conference competition.
Junior Allison Schwartz received Honorable Mention Singles recognition for her performance this season, highlighted by a 6-3 record in conference singles play.
The UT Tyler Women's Tennis program will begin its Lone Star Conference Tournament run on Thursday, taking on #5 seed Texas A&M-Kingsville.
