AMARILLO, TEXAS – UT Tyler women's golf wrapped up a 6
th place finish on a long day on Wednesday that featured 36 holes, while junior
Arnie Taguines booked her ticket to the NCAA Division II National Championship.
Taguines, by virtue of being one of the top two individuals not on a top five placing team, earns her first trip to the NCAA Championship and first by a Patriot since
Martha Laremark qualified back in 2023.
After heavy rains ultimately pushed Tuesday's round into Wednesday, the Patriots would line up for 36 holes at Tascosa Golf Club. In the second round of the tournament and first of the day, the Patriots shot 289.
The Patriots got big contributions from
Martha Laremark and
Karina Duran, as Laremark shot one under 70, and Duran followed with an even par effort of 71. The pair combined for seven birdies and 23 pars in the first round of the day.
Taguines and
Emmerson Doyle would each add rounds of 74 to the Patriots total. Doyle battled through a roller coaster day that featured four birdies and eight pars, while Taguines made a pair of birdies and 12 pars in her round.
In the second round of action, the Patriots shot a 296 and would ultimately finish nine shots outside of qualification into the NCAA Division II National Championship as a team.
Taguines would be back to work in round three, firing a two over par 73 to keep herself up at the top of the leaderboard. That round included a pair of birdies and 12 pars. She would be joined at 73 by Laremark, who made four birdies, including a back nine score of one under 35, on her way to the 73.
The scoring would be rounded out by
Lindsey Li and Duran, who shot scores of 75 and 76 to wrap up the tournament for the Patriots. Li made 12 pars in her round and two birdies in a level effort. Duran would made four birdies and 10 pars to wrap up her tournament.
The Patriots posted the second best par three scoring for the tournament, averaging 3.20 shots and also tied for the tournament lead in birdies with 40.
Taguines will now begin preparations for the NCAA Division II National Championship to be played May 13-17 at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada. The individual portion of the tournament will be played May 13-15.
