TYLER, TEXAS – UT Tyler men's tennis wrapped up their best season in the NCAA era of the program and earned four total All-American nods as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association this week.
The criteria for ITA All-American singles honors are finishing in the top 20 of the final ITA National Singles Rankings. All-American recognition is awarded to doubles teams who finish in the top 10 of the final ITA National Doubles Rankings.
Carel Wessel earns his first ITA All-American honor after finishing ninth in the singles rankings. He finished his year 17-12 overall and played a majority of the season in the #1 line. He also qualified for the ITA Cup last fall by winning the ITA South Central Region in singles and in doubles.
Wessel also earned an ITA All-American nod in doubles, where he was joined by teammate
Daniil Felker. The pair played to a phenomenal 20-9 record overall and earned the ITA South Central Region doubles crown to qualify for the ITA Cup. The pair went 14-6 during the dual match season, all of which coming in the number one line.
The final all-american honor goes to
Artiom Dorofeev. He is the first freshman in the Division II era of the program to be named an All-American. He finished the year ranked #12 in the ITA Rankings after going 22-5 overall. In dual matches alone he went 20-2 while playing three different positions in the lineup on the way to helping the Patriots to their semifinal finish at the NCAA Tournament.
