STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA – UT Tyler cross country wrapped up competition at the OSU Cowboy Jamboree on Friday morning, with both the men's and women's teams placing ahead of regional opponents.
On the men's side, the Patriots totaled 369 points to finish 13th overall, matching their placement from a year ago at this meet. Junior David Soto once again led the squad, placing 39th overall with a time of 24:54.2 in the 8K to score 37 points. Soto's mark was four seconds faster than his performance last year and stands as the top individual finish for UT Tyler in each of the first three races this fall.
Freshman Grayson Williams continued his strong debut season with a 73rd-place finish in 25:03.8, good for 62 points. Sophomore Chris Kopecky (114th, 26:23.9, 87 points) and junior Austin Ponder (115th, 26:24.6, 88 points) came in just a second apart, while freshman Kason Miles closed out the scoring in 131st with a time of 26:45.5 (95 points). As a group, the Patriots finished 97 points ahead of Lone Star Conference rival Lubbock Christian and 127 points clear of Oklahoma Christian.
The Patriot women secured a 14th-place team finish with 395 points in their first 6K race of the season. Like the men, they also outpaced both Oklahoma Christian and Lubbock Christian in the team standings. Sophomore Macy Cogburn led the way in 87th place, running 22:45.1 for 62 points — a substantial improvement from her 23:06.2 showing at last year's Jamboree.
Returner Gracie Ladner was next across the line in 102nd with a time of 23:01.9 (73 points), cutting nearly a full minute from her 2023 effort. Freshman Adison Richard (111th, 23:19.2, 80 points), junior Kailynn Denney (116th, 23:23.4, 84 points), and freshman Giselle Alejandro (131st, 23:52.2, 96 points) rounded out the scoring lineup.
UT Tyler will now take a weekend off before closing out the regular season at the DBU Old Glory Gallup on October 11.
