Patriots Battle Rattlers to Scoreless Draw

UT Tyler kept scoreless despite season high in shots

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The UT Tyler Women's Soccer Program battled to a 0-0 draw against St. Mary's (TX) Wednesday night. The Patriots move to 7-4-3 overall and 7-3-2 in conference play. UT Tyler controlled much of the match, finishing with a 25-7 shot advantage against the Rattlers including 12 shots on goal.

The Patriots started their offensive pressure early on in the opening half, as Celine Diaz and Lily Moreno sent the first shots for UT Tyler. Carson Glenn was able to put UT Tyler's first shot on goal in the 22nd minute, with a low shot down the middle but the Rattlers keeper was able to make the save. The Patriots kept pressing though as Ella Anderson, Diaz and Katie Wong continue to send shots towards the net but none hit their mark. St. Mary's (TX) managed one late first-half shot that missed wide right, leaving the match scoreless at halftime.

UT Tyler opened the second half with more offensive chances from Anderson. The Patriots would get the closest to break the tie as Wong and Lexi Luff sent back-to-back shots at the Rattlers goal, however two incredible saves from the St. Mary's goalie would keep the game scoreless.  St. Mary's (TX) would look to respond with a shot of their own but Robbi Curry would make a save of her own.

Anderson would get had a penalty kick chance in the 74th minute after review confirmed a penalty in the box. However, the Patriots leading scorer would have her shot stopped before it could reach the back of the net and that would keep the score tied at 0.

Anderson led the Patriots with seven shots with four on goal. Both totals were season highs for the junior. Hayes added five shots off the bench with four of them on goal. Both were season highs for Anderson and Hayes. 10 total Patriots sent shots towards the net, highlight the depth for UT Tyler.

Curry recorded one save and finished with a shutout, her eighth of the season. Arianna Johnson was back on the pitch anchoring the back line for UT Tyler as they held the Rattlers to just seven shots overall.

UT Tyler will be back in East Texas this weekend as they host 11th ranked Midwestern State. Kickoff will be Saturday, Oct. 24, at 1 p.m. at Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex.
