SPRING, TEXAS – UT Tyler women's golf began their spring semester with a brilliant first day at The Southern Invite as they hold an 11 shot lead heading into Tuesday's final round.
The Patriots hold the lowest and third lowest rounds of the tournament thus far, and were the only team on Monday to shoot two team rounds below 300.
Martha Laremark is the outright leader, shooting one under par for the day. Right behind her is teammate
Lucy Kate Smith, who is tied for second at even par. Right behind Smith is teammate
Karina Duran, who is one shot over par after the first day.
UT Tyler is the only team with three players inside the top 10, and they are the only team with four inside the top 15.
Round one saw the Patriots fire their lowest round of the day and the lowest round in the tournament thus far, a three under par 285 as a team to take the lead. Duran led the charge with a round of three under par that featured five birdies to just two bogeys. Laremark would also go under par, shooting 71 with three birdies to two bogeys. Smith followed at even par, making three birdies and an eagle to counter four bogeys. The final counting score came from
Emmerson Doyle, who shot one over par with two birdies and three bogeys.
Round two saw the scoring get tougher, and the Patriots again excelled by shooting the best round of any team in the field with a 297. Laremark and Smith led the charge by both shooting scores of 72, combining for five birdies and five bogeys between them. Duran and Doyle rounded out the scoring, shooting 76 and 77 respectively in tougher conditions on the course.
Arnie Taguines also competed for the Patriots on Monday, shooting rounds of 79 and 77.
Lindsey Li is representing the Patriots as an individual, and she shot scores of 81 and 75.
UT Tyler leads the field in par three, par four, and par five scoring. They rank second in total birdies, first in total pars, first in fewest bogeys and first in fewest doubles.
Lucy Kate Smith leads the tournament in par three scoring at four under par, and
Martha Laremark leads in par five scoring at two under par. Smith made the third most birdies in the field on Monday, while Laremark led the field in pars and fewest bogeys.
UT Tyler will tee off in the third round on Tuesday beginning at 8:30 a.m. as they look for their first team title of the 2025-26 season.
