TOCCOA, GEORGIA – UT Tyler women's golf finished in a tie for fourth at the Ralph Hayes Toyota D2 Elite Invitational held at Currahee Golf Club.
Forecasted heavy rains on Monday forced the tournament to begin on Sunday, where the Patriots played 16 of their 18 holes. Those heavy rains came, and the Patriots finished their first round on Tuesday before heading back out to play the final 18 holes of the tournament in an adjusted format.
The Patriots finished with a two round total of 597, 14 shots behind winner #3 Anderson. UT Tyler did place ahead of #1 Wingate, #7 Lee, #11 Indianapolis, #17 Saint Leo, #19 Lander, and #25 West Florida within the top 25 of the Scoreboard Rankings.
Those first 18 holes saw the Patriots shoot 298 as a team, the fifth lowest round of the field and positioned 11 shots back of first round leader and host team #3 Anderson.
Arnie Taguines led the team, firing one of the nine under par rounds in the round at 71. She made four birdies to three bogeys, including three circles on the front nine to shoot 34.
The scoring would be rounded out by
Martha Laremark,
Emmerson Doyle, and
Karina Duran in the first round, as they shot rounds of 74, 75, and 78. Laremark's round featured three bogeys, one birdie, and 14 pars in her effort, while Doyle and Duran combined for six birdies between them.
In Tuesday's final round, the Patriots shot 299 as a team, but good enough to move up in the standings by one spot and pass up #11 Indianapolis and #1 Wingate to settle into a tie for fourth.
That final round was led by a one over par effort from Laremark, who made three birdies in her round to go with 13 pars as she climbed 10 spots to finish 13
th on the individual leaderboard.
She was joined in the final round scoring by Taguines, Duran, and Doyle, who shot 75, 75, and 76. Taguines battled back from a front nine 42 with a sizzling 33 on the back nine that featured three birdies and six pars. Duran would shot 36-39 that featured four birdies, and Doyle shot 40-36 with two birdies and 12 pars.
Taguines placed 9
th for the week, Doyle placed 32
nd, and Duran finished 38
th.
Also competing for the Patriots was
Lucy Kate Smith, who shot scores of 79 and 76 over the two rounds to finish 47
th.
UT Tyler for the fall slate finishes with four top five placements, recording a total record of 45-9-2 over their four total events.
