Hornback added an insurance run in the seventh inning with another RBI single after Bryce Jewell and Bragg were both hit by pitches to put traffic on the bases.
Colorado Mesa mounted one final push in the bottom of the seventh, cutting the lead to 8-5 with a two-run double, but Abel escaped further damage with a strikeout before Noah Lindt entered in the eighth and shut the door.
