CANYON, TEXAS – UT Tyler softball collected 17 honors on Wednesday night at the season ending awards banquet, along with the Academic Player of the Year in
Taryn Barney.
Barney, a senior from Lewiston, Idaho, holds a perfect 4.0 GPA as a criminal justice major and earns her first selection to the All-Academic Team and is now the second LSC Academic Player of the Year from UT Tyler. Barney also earned All-LSC First Team honors for the second straight season after leading the Patriots in homers, RBI, slugging, and on-base percentage.
Joining Barney on the All-LSC First Team was
Alli Kimball and
Megan Lau. Kimball, a junior from Gig Harbor, Washington, earns her first All-LSC honor after posting a 2.21 ERA with a 10-1 record in 24 appearances. She also earned a spot on the LSC All-Academic Team.
Lau, a freshman from Frisco, Texas, also picks up her first All-LSC honor after hitting .400 for the regular season while adding in 10 RBI and 31 runs. She also adds an LSC All-Freshman team honor.
Kearston Gooch was the program's lone honoree on the All-LSC Second Team. She went 13-3 in the circle with a 2.14 ERA along with four complete games and 53 strikeouts.
Laci Berecochea,
Kaylee Cavazos,
Kaelyn Lerma,
Dezirae Lopez, and
Layne Reh each were selected to the All-LSC Third Team. Lerma also joined Lau on the All-Freshman Team, and Reh was selected as the program's only winner of a Golden Glove after posting a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in the outfield with 62 chances and adding two assists. Lopez joined Kimball and Barney on the All-Academic Team, marking the first time the Patriots had three selections to the team.
UT Tyler will kick off their postseason play on Thursday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. as they take on St. Mary's in the quarterfinal round at Schaeffer Park in Canyon, Texas.
