ABILENE -- The UT Tyler women's soccer team fell to American Southwest Conference power Hardin-Simmons 2-1 in overtime on Friday afternoon. The Patriots fought hard throughout, taking the early 1-0 lead on a goal by Chana Forstall.
Hardin-Simmons now extends its astounding streak of not losing a conference-match to 154-consecutive games.
The early portion of the game was filled with chances for both teams, but not until the 27th-minute was a goal scored.
Forstall took a long pass from fellow-freshman Chestley Strother, outrunning the defense and beating Lexi Stinson for the 1-0 lead.
Hardin-Simmons (12-0-1, 9-0) answered back just nine minutes later, when Shannon Byrd beat two Patriots (11-4, 8-1) with a shot from the top of the box, beating goalie Macy Hurley, tying the score at 1-1.
The second half was a defensive battle, with the Cowgirls having a few chances that bounced off the bar, keeping the game in a 1-1 tie.
In the 96th-minute, Katie Haltiwanger was able to get a shot of between defenders, beating Hurley to the upper-left of the goal, winning the game 2-1.
HSU blasted 23 shots to the Patriots 11, but the teams were almost even in shots on goal, with the Cowgirls taking the 6-5 advantage.
Jordan Johnson led UT Tyler with three shots, followed by freshman Nikki Gordon who finished with two.
The Patriots play Howard Payne on Saturday at 1 p.m. before returning home for the last two regular-season matches of the year.
