TYLER, TEXAS – UT Tyler head spirit squad coach Maggie Koehn recently announced her resignation effective April 30
th
Koehn served as the head spirit squad coach for seven seasons and was instrumental in the growth of the program during her time with the Patriots. Her experience spans over 15 years combined and including high school cheer, All Star Cheer, dance, tumbling and fitness classes.
"Coach Koehn has done a remarkable job increasing team numbers and performance talent," UT Tyler VP for Athletics Dr. Howard Patterson said. "Her efforts have put the spirit programs on the map with Patriot cheer, dance, and STUNT teams plus the Patriot mascot Swoop, who has become a fixture on campus and in the community. We wish her the best as she continues to grow her gym and helps young athletes reach their potential in cheer and dance."
Maggie and her husband own Flyer Athletics, a cheer and tumbling gym in Tyler.
"I began coaching at the collegiate level in 2014 and was blessed to move back to my hometown and work at UT Tyler starting in 2016," Koehn said. "During the almost decade working in higher education, it has given and taught me more than I could have ever imagined. I am forever thankful for Dr. Patterson and the opportunities he has given both myself and our Spirit Program from 2016 until the end of this season. UT Tyler and especially athletics is full of extremely hard-working staff and student athletes and I am beyond thankful for my 6.5 year story helping UT Tyler Spirit grow and build from where it was when I started in 2016. I am looking forward to watching it continue to grow for years to come as my husband and I will remain in Tyler and will be UT Tyler's biggest fans, forever."
A national search for the next spirit squad coach will be announced at a later date.
