NATIONAL CHAMPIONS: UT Tyler Cheer Takes Intermediate Coed Division II at NCA National Championships

DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA – UT Tyler cheer has won the first national championship in program history after earning the Intermediate Coed Division II title at the National Cheer Association National Championships.

The Patriots earned a score of 89.3357 with their routine, outlasting both McKendree and Millikin to take the title.

"Never in my wildest dreams did I think we'd be competing at this level," said head coach Katie Hutto. "When Large connected today, I knew it was ours—there's no way to describe that feeling. I'm incredibly honored to coach this group and especially proud of the 2024 and 2025 teams who laid the foundation, elevated our program, and put us on the map. Because of them, we've been able to recruit, grow, and ultimately reach this moment. This championship belongs to all of us."

UT Tyler earned a raw score of 81.9 with zero deductions, and then added a performance score of 91 to create an event score of 89.3357 for the final round, creating a 7.6 point gap to second place McKendree.

In addition to the Patriots championship in Intermediate Coed, the Patriot added a fifth-place finish in Spirit Rally Division II. They earned a raw score of 91.2 and a performance score of 90.95, leading to an event score of 90.6625 to beat out Southern Nazarene for the fifth spot.

The national championship performance and top five placement in Spirit Rally follows up a string of form at the NCA nationals for the Patriots, with now the last three seasons coming under head coach Katie Hutto. They finished fourth in Spirit Rally Division II in 2025, third in the same division in 2024 and fifth in 2023.

Additonally, that top five score in Spirit Rally placed inside the top 10 across all divisions, marking the third straight year the Patriots have accomplished that feat.

The NCA College National Championships pit the top collegiate cheerleading teams from across the country in seven different categories to compete for national championships. The championships themselves take place in Daytona Beach at the Daytona Beach Bandshell.
