UT Tyler dropped both contests on the road last weekend at St. Mary's and St. Edward's. St. Mary's pulled away in the final minutes to claim a 66-51 win over UT Tyler on Thursday night in San Antonio. Senior

Jordan Hairston added 13 points on an evening in which the Patriots shot just 34.0 percent (16-for-47) from the field. Those shooting struggles eventually caught up to UT Tyler as St. Mary's turned a one-possession game with just over 10 minutes remaining into a double-digit victory with an offensive onslaught in the final few minutes of play. UT Tyler trailed just 45-42 with 10:47 remaining in the game, but a 12-0 run for the Rattlers over the next eight minutes of game play extended their advantage to 57-43 with 2:47 remaining on the clock. St. Mary's relied on a strong inside presence against the Patriots with 42 points in the paint on the night, resulting in a 52.2 percent (24-for-46) field goal percentage for the game. UT Tyler dropped a 90-77 final to St. Edward's on Saturday afternoon in Austin. Williams led UT Tyler with 19 points and junior
Quinn Smith finished with a season-high 11 to highlight the Patriot offensive effort. UT Tyler maintained a lead through the first eight minutes of the first half, but 13 unanswered points from St. Edward's established a 29-18 lead with 9:43 remaining. The Patriots cut the deficit to just six on two separate occasions prior to the halftime break, but trailed 43-33 after 20 minutes of play. UT Tyler went 28-for-60 (46.7 percent) from the field for the night, and shot a season best 42.9 percent (9-for-21) from three-point range, but simply struggled to slow down the Hilltoppers in the second half.
SCOUTING THE JAVELINAS
Texas A&M-Kingsville enter's Thursday night's contest at UT Tyler in fifth place in the LSC standings with a 10-6 record in league play and a 16-8 overall record. The Javelinas have followed up a nine-game winning streak with losses in three out of their last five contests, and went 1-1 on the road last weekend at Oklahoma Christian and UAFS. Texas A&M-Kingsville ranks sixth in both scoring offense (71.7 ppg) and scoring defense (68.0 ppg) in league play. Four different Javelinas in C.J. Smith, Kavon Booker, Isaiah Payne and Jake Majors average double-digit scoring figures on the season. The home team has won all five meetings between the two programs, three of which have occurred in Kingsville, and two in Tyler. Texas A&M-Kingsville won the first meeting between the two teams earlier this season by a 66-59 final tally back on Jan. 14th.

Texas A&M International enters the weekend's play two games back of the magic no. 8 spot in the LSC Regular Season Standings with a mark of 6-10 in LSC play, and a 13-11 overall record. The Dustdevils rank 11th in all of Division II basketball in scoring defense (62.0 ppg), and have surrendered just 64.6 points per game to Lone Star Conference opposition. Texas A&M International has averaged just 63.9 points a game in LSC games. Jermaine Drewey is the leading scorer for the Dustdevils with an average of 10.0 points per game. The Dustdevils lead the all-time series over the Patriots 2-1.

With the top eight teams in the LSC Regular Season Standings qualifying for the Lone Star Conference Men's Basketball Championships at season's end, UT Tyler faces near must-wins this weekend on their home floor. The Patriots are three games back of eighth place with a league record of 5-11, but have posted a mark of 7-3 on their home floor in 2022-23.

Rashun Williams has posted five straight games of 15 point of more scoring efforts entering Thursday's match-up with Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Arlington, Ga. native ranks fourth in the LSC in 2022-23 with an average of 17.2 points per game and averages the third most three-point makes a game with an average of 2.4.
HEAD COACH LOUIS WILSON
Head coach
Louis Wilson is in his fourth season at the helm of the UT Tyler men's basketball program in 2022-23, and eighth season overall as a head coach at the Division II level. The 2022-23 season will mark the 31st year of collegiate basketball coaching experience for Wilson, as he accumulated 23 years of experience at the Division I level as an associate or assistant head coach prior to his time in Tyler. He spent five years as head coach at Division II foe Adams State of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) from 2010-15, totaling a 95-46 record as head coach of the Grizzlies, and led the program to three consecutive appearances in the NCAA Division II National Tournament from 2010-13. Coach Wilson enters Thursday night with a record of 45-50 in his four years as head coach of the Patriots.
