LAST TIME OUT

Junior Bryce Roberts scored 19 second-half points and UT Tyler kept one of the Lone Star Conference's best offensive units in check all game in a tight 67-60 loss to St. Edward's last Thursday. The Patriots limited the Hilltoppers to just 36.4 percent (20-for-55) from the field and stayed within striking distance of St. Edward's throughout the final 10 minutes of the contest. Roberts scored all 19 of his game-high point total in a second half in which UT Tyler outscored the Hilltoppers by a 39-to-34 margin. Roberts went 8-for-16 from the field and UT Tyler shot 39.3 percent (24-for-61) from the field as a unit. Sophomore Nikolas Gustavson added 15 points and graduate student Terrell Wilson 10 points to the scoring effort. St. Edward's was able to overcome the stout Patriot defensive presence by converting on 18-of-22 attempts from the free-throw line as a team, while UT Tyler went just 6-for-11 as a unit.

UT Tyler fell by an 87-69 final at St. Mary's to wrap up their weekend road trip on Saturday afternoon. St. Mary's (6-8, 2-6 LSC) went 12-for-24 (50.0 percent) from three-point range and maintained a 10-plus point lead for the final 15 minutes of the second half. Junior Bryce Roberts led the way for the Patriots with 16 points and served as the lone contributor to reach double-digit scoring numbers for UT Tyler (2-12, 1-7 LSC). The Patriots couldn't keep pace with an efficient long-range shooting output for the Rattlers, making just 2-of-18 (11.1 percent) from three-point land as a team.

PATRIOT NEWS AND NOTES

- UT Tyler will welcome Texas A&M International and Texas A&M-Kingsville to the Herrington Patriot Center this weekend for a pair of East Division Lone Star Conference meetings on Thursday and Saturday. The Patriots enter the weekend 2-12 on the year and 1-7 in Lone Star Conference play and have gone 2-5 this season on their home floor.
- Junior Bryce Roberts is currently riding a streak of four straight games with double-digit scoring figures after leading the Patriots in both outings last weekend on the road at St. Edward's and St. Mary's. He has averaged 15.5 points per game in LSC games this season, and leads the team on the year with an average of 14.0 points per contest. The Bossier City, La. native holds the two highest individual game scoring outputs on the year for the Patriots with 27 and 26 point outputs back on Nov. 30th and Dec. 2nd against Cameron and Midwestern State.
- UT Tyler ranks 15th in the LSC in scoring offense (69.8 ppg) and eighth in the league in scoring defense (75.4 ppg). The Patriots average the seventh most three-point makes per game (7.6) and rank third in the LSC with an average of 3.86 blocked shots per game.
- The Patriots are 235-289 (.456) all-time as a program and 55-84 (.420) since beginning Division II play in 2019-20. The Patriots are 25-59 in four seasons of Lone Star Conference play.
- The Patriots have shown glimpses of success during the Division II era, having earned national rankings early in both the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons, but closed out each of the last two campaigns with three and eight game losing streaks, respectively. UT Tyler finished 9-17 last season and 5-17 in Lone Star Conference play. The Patriots had their best season of the Division II era the previous year as they went 16-10, made their first appearance in the Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament and were regionally ranked in three editions of the NCAA Division II Regional Rankings.
- Head coach Tim Moser takes the reigns of the program in 2023-24 as the fifth head coach in UT Tyler men's basketball history. Moser returns to the men's side of the collegiate game after serving as the Associate Head Coach for a remarkable turnaround within the UT Tyler women's basketball program.  As a head coach, Moser holds a 513-182 career record (.747) and has won 13 conference championships en route to 12 conference or region coach of the year accolades. Combined with his totals as an assistant coach, Moser has coached 20 conference championship teams during his storied career. He has served as head coach on the men's side at Eastern Wyoming College from 2018-2021 and at Otero Junior College from 1998-2005. He went 150-33 (.828) over six seasons as head coach of the women's side at Alaska-Anchorage from 2006-12.
- The 2023-24 roster features just three returners from the 2022-23 roster for UT Tyler, only one of which saw game action last season. The 2023-24 roster features 16 newcomers to begin the year, seven junior college additions, five four-year transfers and four freshman.
- Texas A&M International has won three straight meetings between the two programs and enters Thursday's match-up with a 3-1 advantage in the all-time series. The Dustdevils have won both games inside the Herrington Patriot Center by four-point margins, an 80-76 victory last season and a 70-66 overtime win in 2021-22.
- Texas A&M-Kingsville holds the all-time advantage in the series with the Patriots by a 4-2 margin and have won each of the last two meetings between the two programs.
