LAST TIME OUT
AnÂ
Alec Zambie lay-up with seven seconds left on the clock provided UT Tyler with a 61-60 road victory over UAFS on Thursday night. The final basket of Zambie's 14-point night provided the difference in a contest where the largest scoring differential either way was just seven points. The Patriots (3-16, 2-11 LSC) limited their opposition to 70 points or less for a fourth-straight outing and out-rebounded the Lions (4-16, 2-12 LSC) by a 35-to-28 margin. Zambie went 5-for-9 from the field, none more important than his driving lay-up with just seconds on the clock that gave the Patriots their only lead in the final two minutes of play, and reached double-double figures with 10 rebounds. UT Tyler didn't allow UAFS to get a shot attempt off in the waning seconds of the contest as freshmanÂ
Khalik Gardner collected his fourth steal of the night as time expired.
Oklahoma Christian capitalized on a strong rebounding effort to hold off UT Tyler in a 77-67 loss for the Patriots on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles dominated on the glass with a 39-to-21 edge in rebounds and turned 11 offensive boards into 10 critical second-chance points. The Patriots went 11-for-22 (50 percent) from beyond the three-point line and were led offensively by juniorÂ
Bryce Roberts, who finished with 15 points on the afternoon. UT Tyler connected on each of their first three attempts from three-point range to lead 11-5 less than five minutes into the contest. Oklahoma Christian responded and overtook a lead that they would maintain for the rest of the contest at the 10:40 mark of the first half. A 31-24 halftime edge for the Eagles was drawn down to a one-possession game at 37-35 with 14:57 remaining. A three-pointer by freshmanÂ
Jesse Fuller brought the difference even closer at 39-38, but the Patriots never managed to tie the game. A three-point game at 53-50 with 6:48 remaining quickly turned into a double-digit advantage for Oklahoma Christian with seven-straight points for the Eagles. UT Tyler never managed to get the game back closer to seven points from then on.
WHAT COACH MOSER IS SAYING
On his thoughts regarding last weekend's contests... "Our guys have been growing and working hard everyday in practice and really coming together. Good to see them get the W against UAFS. They battled hard, they listened and they played hard enough win. Give Oklahoma Christian alot of credit, they're talented and have some size. It once again came down to another two or three minutes of the game where they scored and we didn't. We've figured out now that if games get to high seventies or eighties in points, we're probably on the losing end. So we have to keep controlling tempo and digging in and battling."
On this weekend's meetings with St. Mary's and St. Edward's... "St. Mary's really handed it to us down there in our first game, they pressed us and really came at us, so that's what they're probably going to try and do again. They have alot of guys and they're well coached so they're going to come at us with alot of pressure again. We have to handle that pressure and control tempo. St. Edward's, we had a chance to win that game at their place, so it's an opportunity for our guys to find a way to finish this season well and get a few games before it ends."
