Whataburger Week Three Preview: Women’s Golf

The Patriots head to Wichita Falls, Texas this week to take on the Midwestern State Women’s Invitational.

THE MIDWESTERN STATE WOMEN'S INVITATIONAL

The Patriots will head west and see a tournament with 17 teams teeing it up, including nine LSC teams in what will be a good litmus test against their LSC peers.

Of those 17 teams, #2 DBU, #23 Midwestern State, #30 St. Mary's, #37 Cameron, and #48 Texas A&M International will represent teams inside the top 50 of the initial Scoreboard powered by Clippd rankings.

This week's event will be at Wichita Falls Country Club in Wichita Falls, Texas. Teams will play 54 holes with 36 coming on Monday and 18 more on Tuesday.

UT Tyler will be represented in the five person lineup by Karina Duran, Arnie Taguines, Martha Laremark, Lucy Kate Smith, and Emmerson Doyle, and Lilly Phelps will play as an individual in the event.

HIGH RANKINGS

The Patriots were ranked #5 in the initial rankings from Scoreboard powered by Clippd released on October 16. They have posted an adjusted scoring average of 291.2 and are picking up an average of 37.32 points per tournament while posting a pair of top three finishes.

Individually, Taguines is ranked #16 and Duran is #20 nationally, while Laremark and Doyle are #33 and #40 to round out those inside the top 50 for the program.

LAST TIME OUT

The Patriots most recently battled it out at the National Preview in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida where they placed 3rd. That means the Patriots have defeated 24 of the 27 teams they have played this season, with 20 of those teams either being ranked inside the top 25 or receiving votes in the WGCA Coaches Poll.

In the event, Karina Duran finished in a tie for second on the individual leaderboard and just one shot back of the lead. Arnie Taguines and Emmerson Doyle would finish one shot further back in a tie for fourth.

RETURNING PRODUCTION

Last year for the Patriots was highlighted by several key players, all of which will return for another year in 2025-26. Arnie Taguines was named a WGCA First Team All-America selection, and she also was named All-West Region along with LSC Newcomer of the Year Emmerson Doyle.

That pair is joined by All-LSC Second Team member Karina Duran, and Martha Laremark also makes her return to the program as they look to lead the team to new heights. Joining that quartet is Lilly PhelpsLindsey Li, and Faith Ann Chinn, who each return to the program and will help lead just two newcomers this season.
