COLORADO ROAD TRIP

This week the Patriots open their season in Colorado, taking on Regis and preseason No. 10 Colorado School of Mines in Denver and Golden. Last year, UT Tyler hosted both opponents, falling in an overtime battle to then-No. 8 Colorado School of Mines before responding with a 75–48 victory over Regis the following night.

PATRIOTS NOTES AND TRENDS
  • UT Tyler finished the 2024–25 season 8–20 overall and 5–17 in Lone Star Conference play, but the Patriots were competitive throughout the year with 12 games decided by 10 points or fewer.
  • Last season the Patriots went 5–10 on their home floor, 3–8 on the road, and 0–2 at neutral sites. UT Tyler finished non-conference play with a 3–3 record.
  • Of the 12 games decided by 10 points or fewer, the Patriots were within a single possession in the final minutes in a handful of those contests and held second-half leads in several.
  • UT Tyler returns four athletes from last year, including LSC Male Athletic Performance Athlete of the Year Sam Phipps, along with Hudson Anderson, Patrick Carr, and Mate Kapanadze.
  • The Patriots add four junior college transfers—Chris Carpenter, Xavier Williams, Sean Emfinger, and Kyle Morgan—each arriving from strong JUCO programs and bringing toughness, size, and proven winning habits.
  • Transfer guard Boston Caldwell joins the Patriots after producing at both the junior college and Division III levels and is expected to contribute immediately.
  • A strong group of Australian newcomers also joins the roster, including freshmen Noah Suarjaya, Heath Tenner, and Spencer Gaze, along with Greg Fowlds and Jacob Bell. The group is expected to boost the team's shooting, depth, and overall skill level.
  • With a blend of experienced returners and a major influx of impact newcomers, the Patriots aim to turn last season's close-game experiences into meaningful progress throughout the 2025–26 campaign.
LSC PRESEASON POLL

In the Lone Star Conference Preseason Poll, the Patriots received 260 points to land at No. 14 in the annual preseason rankings. Dallas Baptist University (DBU) was chosen as the preseason favorite after earning 850 total points and 42 first-place votes.

THE RANGERS

The Regis Rangers have already opened their season at the South Central Region Crossover, where they faced LSC opponents St. Mary's and Lubbock Christian, being outscored 183–123 across the two games. Through those contests, Regis is shooting 47% from the field and 35% from three. Logan Flores-Peoples leads the Rangers with 12 points per game, followed closely by Luke Soden at 11 per game.

Last season, Regis finished 18–14 overall and 14–6 in RMAC play. The matchup also marked the first-ever meeting between the programs, with UT Tyler earning a 75–48 win.

THE OREDIGGERS

The preseason No. 10 Colorado School of Mines Orediggers have also opened their season, competing in both the D2CCA Tipoff Classic and the South Central Region Crossover. They have already faced three LSC opponents—Angelo State, Lubbock Christian, and St. Mary's—and will play UT Dallas on Friday before hosting the Patriots on Saturday in their 2025 home opener.

It has been a tough start for the defending RMAC champions, as they enter the weekend 0–5, with all five losses coming by narrow margins. In those contests, Mines has been outscored just 386–346. The Orediggers are shooting 41% from the field and 32% from three while allowing 77 points per game.

Markus Pastorcic-Straun leads the team with 109 total points (21.8 per game), shooting an impressive 57% from three and 51% from the field. Alex Romack anchors the interior, averaging 9.6 rebounds per game.

Last season, Colorado School of Mines finished atop the RMAC with an 18–2 conference record and a 29–5 overall mark, including a dominant 16–1 record at home. Their overtime victory against UT Tyler last season marked the first meeting between the two programs.
