ROCKWALL, TEXAS – UT Tyler women's golf finished fifth at the Lone Star Conference Championship on Tuesday afternoon as they shot a final round 295.
That 295 (+7), was the second best round recorded on the day by any team in the field and was one of just three rounds under 300.
That round was led by the efforts of
Arnie Taguines, who tied for the best round of the day by any competitor in the field with a two under par 70. Taguines fired an even par back nine to begin her day, and then followed it up with an eagle and a birdie with just one bogey on the front nine to close out her round and climb 20 spots on the leaderboard to 15
th.
Right behind Taguines was sophomore
Emmerson Doyle, who fired a third round 73. She made three birdies along with 11 pars as she held firm in third place for the tournament. That is the best finish for a Patriot at the LSC Championship in program history, surpassing the previous best by
Caroline Steingruebner, who placed in a tie for ninth last season.
Scoring was rounded out by
Karina Duran and
Lilly Phelps, who shot rounds of 74 and 78. Duran made 14 pars and one birdie in her round, while Phelps made six pars and three birdies in her efforts.
The Patriots for the tournament played the par 5s in seven under par, good enough for third in the tournament field. They also made four eagles as a team, the most in the field.
Emmerson Doyle led the field in pars with 36 total for the three days and was third in par four scoring at an average of 4.07 for the week.
UT Tyler will now wait and see if they are selected for the NCAA West Regional Tournament to be played at La Paloma Golf Course in Amarillo, Texas on May 5-7. The NCAA selections for that regional tournament will made on April 28.
