THE OUTDOOR SEASON
This spring, the Patriots have put together a stout outdoor season while rewriting the Patriots history books. 11 total school records have been broken this spring, seven on the men's side and four on the women's side.
Dylan Bennett has his hands in three of those, the 100, 200, and 4x100 relay.
Ashton Turner also has his hands in three of those, the 110 hurdles, 400 hurdles, and 4x400 relay.
Also, the Patriots have put together 10 total NCAA provisional marks this spring, with four of those currently in line to make the NCAA Championships. Both the men's 4x100 and 4x400 relay's sit inside the top 10 in Division II, and
Ashton Turner also is inside the top 10 in both the 110 meter hurdles and 400 meter hurdles.
THE LSC CHAMPIONSHIPS
This year's Lone Star Conference Outdoor Championships will be held in Portales, New Mexico and be hosted by Eastern New Mexico. They will take place at Al Whitehead Field and Steve Loy Family Foundation Stadium on the campus of Eastern New Mexico.
11 men's teams and 12 women's teams will suit up and compete for the LSC crown in the three day event beginning Thursday.
The top eight finishers in both individual and relay events will earn points, with those points being dished out as 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1.
The all-conference first team shall consist of event winners, including all members of the winning relay teams, and athletes scoring 14 or more points at the Conference Championships Meet. The all-conference second team shall consist of all members of second-place relay teams and athletes scoring 8-13.9 points. The all-conference third team shall consist of all members of third-place relay teams athletes scoring 6-7.9 points. Individual awards shall include Outstanding Male and Female Track Athlete, Outstanding Male and Female Field Athlete and Coach of the Year for both men and women.
Thursday will see the beginning rounds of both the decathlon and heptathlon, as well as preliminary rounds of several track events. The field events will begin at 3 p.m., while the track events are set for 6:30 p.m.
