Box Score LAWTON, OKLA. – The UT Tyler baseball program opened its series against Cameron in dominant fashion, plating a season-high 20 runs in a 20-6 victory. The Patriots capitalized on five Aggie errors and racked up 13 hits to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
UT Tyler wasted no time getting started, scoring three or more runs in three of the first four innings. In the top of the first, a leadoff single and two walks loaded the bases. A passed ball brought in the first run before Tanner Hornback launched a three-run home run, his first of the season, to give the Patriots a 4-0 lead.
The Patriots added another run in the second as Brock Bearden singled, stole second, and scored on a Drew Schmidt base hit. Cameron answered in the bottom half with a run of their own after loading the bases, using a fielder's choice to make it 5-1.
UT Tyler broke things open in the third with a five-run inning. Three consecutive singles loaded the bases, and Tanner Chelette drove in a run with another base hit. A wild pitch, groundout, and sacrifice fly extended the lead to 9-1, while Hornback added another RBI after being hit by a pitch.
After a scoreless frame from Caden Copeland, the Patriots continued their offensive surge in the fourth. An error and two walks loaded the bases again, and Luke Smith delivered with a single to center. An error on the play allowed two runs to score, and a sacrifice fly pushed the lead to 13-1.
The Aggies responded with five runs across the fifth and sixth innings. They scored once in the fifth on three singles, then added four more in the sixth, capitalizing on two walks and two throwing errors. An RBI triple capped their scoring and cut the deficit to 13-6.
UT Tyler put the game away in the eighth with a seven-run outburst, all coming with two outs. Logan Jenkins started the rally with an RBI double, followed by another Aggie error that brought in a run. A dropped third strike plated another before Spencer Simpson delivered the biggest swing of the night, a grand slam for his first home run of the season, extending the lead to 20-6.
Nine Patriots recorded hits in the game, with Smith, Hornback, and Simpson leading the way with multiple-hit performances. Smith went 2-for-4, Hornback finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored, and Simpson paced the offense with three hits and four RBIs.
With the win, UT Tyler improves to 20-6 on the season and will continue the series with a doubleheader against the Aggies tomorrow beginning at 3 p.m.
