LAWTON, OKLA. – UT Tyler baseball secured a series sweep over Cameron with a 13–11 victory in a back-and-forth finale. The Patriots piled up 13 hits and built an early lead before fending off multiple late rallies from the Aggies to complete the sweep.
The Patriots wasted no time jumping on the scoreboard in the opening inning. Luke Smith led off with a double and Drew Schmidt followed with a walk before Kaston Mason loaded the bases with a single. Cole Ketzner delivered a two-run single to open the scoring, and Spencer Simpson followed with an RBI double. Brock Bearden capped the explosive frame with a three-run home run to give UT Tyler a 6–0 advantage after the top half of the first.
Cameron responded quickly in the bottom of the inning, scoring five runs on three hits and capitalizing on a defensive miscue to cut the lead to 6–5.
UT Tyler answered in the second as Schmidt and Mason reached before a bunt single from Tanner Hornback set up a wild pitch that brought home a run to extend the lead to 7–5. The Patriots added two more in the third, highlighted by an RBI double from Smith and a sacrifice fly from Schmidt to push the advantage to 9–5.
The Patriots continued to build in the fourth. After a leadoff single from Simpson and a hit-by-pitch, a series of passed balls allowed two runs to score before a dropped third strike made it 12-5.
Cameron chipped away over the middle innings, including a solo home run in the fourth and a run in the fifth to trim the deficit. The Aggies continued their push in the sixth, plating two runs to close the gap to 12–9.
After both teams were held scoreless in the seventh, Cameron made things interesting in the eighth with a two-run single to pull within one at 12–11.
UT Tyler answered in the ninth with a key insurance run. Smith singled and later scored on a fielding error in the outfield to extend the lead to 13–11.
Garrett Landry shut the door in the bottom of the ninth, retiring the side in order to secure the win and complete the sweep.
Offensively, the Patriots saw production throughout the lineup as seven players recorded hits. Smith led the way with a 4-for-6 performance, while Bearden drove in three runs with his first-inning home run. Simpson added two hits and an RBI, and Ketzner chipped in two RBIs.
With the win, UT Tyler improves to 22–8 on the season and moves into a tie atop the Lone Star Conference standings as they prepare to host UT Permian Basin.
