DALLAS, TEXAS – The UT Tyler baseball program claimed the top spot in the Lone Star Conference with a 12-3 road victory over UT Dallas on Thursday afternoon, powered by a 17-hit offensive outburst. The Patriots have now won nine straight games and have scored 10 or more runs in six consecutive contests.
UT Tyler struck first in the second inning in a matchup between the top two teams in the LSC standings. Drew Schmidt opened the frame with a triple, and a sacrifice fly brought home the first run of the series. Luke Smith followed with a double and later scored on a wild pitch before Connor Clark launched a solo home run—his third of the season. The Patriots added another run later in the inning to take a 4-0 lead.
Caden Copeland was efficient on the mound, facing the minimum in both the second and third innings. After a leadoff error in the fourth, the Patriots capitalized as Clark delivered an RBI single to extend the lead to 5-0. Two doubles and an RBI groundout followed, pushing the advantage to 7-0.
UT Dallas responded in the bottom half of the fourth with a run-scoring sequence of single, double, and single, along with an RBI groundout to cut the deficit to 7-2. The Comets added their final run in the fifth on a solo home run.
The Patriots answered in the sixth, as Tanner Hornback doubled and later scored on a Cole Ketzner single to make it 8-3. UT Tyler then broke the game open in the eighth inning, plating three runs highlighted by Ketzner's three-run home run to left field. The Patriots added one more run later in the inning to secure the 12-3 win.
Ethan Jezierski entered in the fifth inning and delivered 4.2 shutout innings to close out the game. He allowed just three hits, struck out three, and improved to 3-2 on the season. Jezierski has now thrown 8.1 consecutive scoreless innings.
Nine Patriots recorded at least one hit, with five players tallying multiple hits. Clark finished 3-for-5, reaching base four times with two runs scored and two RBIs. Ketzner led the offense, going 4-for-5 with five RBIs. He is now hitting .414 on the season with 11 home runs and 49 RBIs.
With the win, UT Tyler takes sole possession of first place in the Lone Star Conference and hands UT Dallas its first loss as the home team on the season. The Patriots improve to 27-8 overall and will look to secure the series win with a doubleheader sweep on Friday afternoon.
