Patriots Break Records, Post Strong Showing at Bobcat Invitational

Ponder sets program, meet, and facility record in 10K; Hunting breaks school record as UT Tyler tallies multiple top-15 finishes

SAN MARCOS, TEXAS – The UT Tyler track and field program continued its strong outdoor season during day one of the Bobcat Invitational, highlighted by multiple record-breaking performances and several top-15 finishes across distance and mid-distance events.

Leading the way for the Patriots was Austin Ponder, who delivered a historic performance in the men's 10,000m. Ponder shattered the program, meet, and facility records with a time of 30:43.25 to claim first place.

On the women's side, Finley Hunting also etched her name in the record books with a dominant performance in the 10,000m. The junior broke the program record with a time of 38:36.46 to win the event, while Adison Richard added a fifth-place finish in the same race (40:35.94).

In the women's 5,000m, Gracie Ladner paced UT Tyler with an impressive runner-up finish, crossing the line in 17:51.84. Freshman Giselle Alejandro added a fifth-place finish with a time of 18:44.16, while Marigold Hunter placed 10th overall.

The women's 800m group added depth for the Patriots with four top-15 finishes. Kymia Woodard led the way with a fifth-place finish (2:12.00), followed by Kamaria Carr in ninth (2:13.17), Macy Cogburn in 11th (2:14.46), and Nina Allmark in 13th (2:15.11).

On the men's side, Stephon Nickerson recorded a sixth-place finish in the 400m with a time of 48.89, while Chris Kopecky added a top-15 performance in the 800m with a 13th-place finish (1:52.28).

The distance crew continued to impress in the steeplechase, as Gaige Gordey placed seventh in the men's 3,000m steeple (9:48.25), with Cristian Barron finishing 15th. On the women's side, Addison Truly finished seventh (11:57.02) and Elayna Metzger placed ninth (12:23.08).

Andres Rios added another top-15 finish for the Patriots in the men's 5,000m, placing 12th with a time of 15:22.22.

In the field events, Kaitlyn Johnson recorded a 13th-place finish in the women's discus with a throw of 38.07 meters.

The Patriots will kick off day two at the Bobcat Invitational with the women's hammer throw at 11 a.m., alongside the start of the men's decathlon.
