TYLER, TEXAS – The University of Texas at Tyler women's golf team finished up play in the 2021 DBU Women's Classic on Tuesday afternoon with a team score of 323 in the third and final round at the Wildhorse Golf Club at Robson Ranch.
The Patriots maintained their 17
th place standing on the team leaderboard with a 935 (308-304-323) total score for the three rounds, picking up a win over Lone Star Conference foe Midwestern State in the process, who finished in 18
th place.
The third round proved to be much more difficult for the entire field as all but two of the 19 teams shot higher rounds in the third round than yesterday afternoon's second round. The scoring average for the field also jumped up from a 76.84 and 75.37 average in the first two rounds to a 78.40 in Tuesday's final round.
#2 Lynn was one of those two teams to improve their final round score on Tuesday, firing a 290 in the third and final round to overtake #7 St. Mary's for the team title with an 871 (290-291-290) team score. North Georgia's Madeline Ananthasane held onto her lead after the first two rounds to claim the individual title, finishing the tournament at seven-under par (209) after rounds of 66-71-72.
Senior
Raelynn Hardgrave posted the low final round score for UT Tyler on Tuesday, pairing her pair of 75's in yesterday's opening two rounds with a 77 this morning. Her 227 (75-75-77) total for the event placed the Conroe, Texas native in a tie for 36
th place for the event.
Sophomore
Julia Kerrigan carded an 80 on Tuesday to finish in 63
rd place in the field with a 234 (80-74-80) total for the event. Freshman
Brooke Wagner shot 84 on Tuesday and finished a shot behind Kerrigan on the individual leaderboard with a 235 (76-75-84) total score.
That 84 on Tuesday for Wagner was matched by
Kaitlyn Charles, who finished in 85
th place with a 241 (77-80-84) three-round total. Senior
Zoe Mayfield rounded out the Patriot finishers in the tournament with a 244 (82-80-82) and a 90
th place finish on the leaderboard.
The DBU Classic field featured a total of 10 teams ranked in the latest Division II WGCA Coaches Top 25 field, and four more teams associated with the poll in the receiving votes category.
UT Tyler will now take a brief break from action next weekend before returning to play for their fourth tournament of the fall semester at the West Texas A&M Fall Invitational on Oct. 4-5 at Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas.
