WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS – A final round 297 slipped UT Tyler four spots down the team leaderboard into sixth place at the Midwestern State Invitational on Tuesday.
The Patriots finished the 54-hole event with an 862 (275-290-297) after beginning Tuesday's final round at Wichita Falls Country Club in second place following a program-record 275 in round one on Monday. UT Tyler's sixth place finish secures the team head-to-head victories over five Lone Star Conference foes.
Junior
Jackson Powers shot the low round of the morning for UT Tyler with an even-par 71 to finish in a tie for 25
th place with a 216 (73-72-71) total for the event. Senior
Carson Whitton stayed within the individual top-10 in 10
th place after under-par rounds of 66-70 on Monday with a 78 in the final round to bring his three-round total to 214 (66-70-78).
Midland Community College took home the team title with a 12-under par team total of 840 (287-273-280) for the event. Texas A&M International's Mauricio Figueroa claimed the individual crown with a 10-under par total of 203 (67-67-69).
Sophomore
Jackson Naeger shot 74 and juniors
Carter Lewis and
Seth Campbell both turned in rounds of 76 to round out the scoring for UT Tyler on Tuesday.
Lewis finished in a tie for 32
nd place following rounds of 68-74-76 and Campbell in a tie for 48
th place after rounds of 71-74-76. Naeger climbed up into a tie for 61
st place with a 225 (70-81-74) total.
UT Tyler will finish up their fall slate of events on Oct. 24-25 at Butterfield Trail Golf Course in El Paso, Texas.
