STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA – UT Tyler men's golf sits in a tie for 15
th on the team leaderboard after a first round 294 on Thursday at The Reserve at Spanos Park in the NCAA South Central/West Regional.
Western Washington holds the top spot with West Texas A&M, Cal State-San Marcos, Cal State San Bernardino, and Cameron making up the top five teams.
The Patriots shot six over par as a team, led by a one under par 71 round from
Preston Chabaud. He made three birdies to a pair of bogeys and added 13 pars in his round. That round puts him in a tie for 19
th on the leaderboard with 28 players shooting under par.
The rest of the scoring was nearly identical, with both
Preston DeSerrano and
Blake Harwell firing 74 and
Jacob Holloway adding a 75. DeSerrano made one birdie to counter his three bogeys, while Harwell added four birdies in an up and down day. Holloway would card three birdies, including a back nine 34 to battle back in his round and provide the final counting score.
Corbin Murray turned in a score of 76 on day one, making one birdie and 12 pars in his effort.
The Patriots rank third in the field in par three scoring average and are also tied for third in total pars as a team.
UT Tyler will tee off beginning at 10:50 a.m. local time on Friday with 18 more to play. Tee times will be re-paired for Saturday's final round.
