BULLARD, TEXAS – The UT Tyler women's golf team picked up a first round victory and fired rounds of 300-295 to sit in third place at the King-Alfred Spring Invitational on Monday.
The King-Alfred Spring Invitational uses a hybrid format of medal match play and stroke play, taking place simultaneously at Eagles Bluff Country Club. All eight teams were seeded for the bracketed match play portion of the event based off of their current GolfStat national rankings.
UT Tyler earned the no. 6 seed and upset no. 3 seeded Texas A&M International in round one, and then dropped a tightly contested semifinal match to no. 2 seeded Henderson State in the afternoon round.
In the stroke play portion of the tournament, UT Tyler jumped up three spots on the team leaderboard with the second round 295, and sit four strokes clear of no. 25 St. Mary's and no. 21 Texas A&M International, who sit in a tie for fourth place with a 599 total. Sophomore
Julia Kerrigan posted a three-under par round of 68 in the first round and fired a second round 75 to sit in a tie for third on the individual stroke play leaderboard with a 143.
DBU holds the team stroke play lead with a 569 (278-291) following the completion of play on day one. Henderson State's Allie Bianchi will hold the overnight individual lead with a 141 (69-72).
Freshman
Brooke Wagner led the Patriots in their second round move up the leaderboard with an even-par 71, and sits in a tie for 11
th place with a 147 (76-71) two-round total. Senior Raelyn Hardgrave posted a 72 in that afternoon round, while Kerrigan followed up her first round 78 with a 75 and senior
Zoe Mayfield a 77 to round out the counting scores for the squad.
Hardgrave posted a 76 in the morning round to sit in a tie for 15
th place with a 148 and Mayfield an 83 in round one to sit in a tie for 32
nd at 160. Junior
Kaitlyn Charles rounded out the scoring team for the Patriots with rounds of 80-78 to sit in 30
th place at 158.
UT Tyler had three individuals that competed in the event, including
Sora Kim, who posted rounds of 76-75 to sit in a tie for 18
th place with a 151.
Avery Bryant posted scores of 74-80 for a 154 total, and Lauren Chritl rounds of 73-83 for a 156 total.
UT Tyler will take on no. 4 seeded St. Mary's in the third-place match in tomorrow's final round slated for an 8:30 shotgun start. The Patriots will look to maintain their positioning ahead of both St. Mary's and Texas A&M International in what would be impressive head-to-head victories.
