DUNCAN, OKLA. – A record day for the UT Tyler men's golf program that featured the lowest team score in program history established a 15-stroke lead for the Patriots following the completion of day one of The Hrncair.
UT Tyler posted a 22-under par team total of 554 (283-271) on Monday at The Territory Golf Club and will enter tomorrow's final round 15 shots clear of #2 Oklahoma Christian. The second round score of 17-under par for a 271 total is the lowest team score ever posted by the UT Tyler men's golf program.
The 554 team total is the lowest 36-hole total in the history of the program as well.
Junior
Seth Campbell spearheaded the record round by matching the lowest individual round in program history with an eight-under par score of 64. That 64 matches George Toone's round of 64 at the Gordin Classic back in 2017-18, but is the lowest round to par in the history of the program at eight-under.
All five Patriots carded under-par rounds in the second round after a 283 in round one. Sophomore
Luke Emerson shot five-under 67 in round one and junior
Carson Wray, 70, to lead the way to a tie for first place after the conclusion of the first round of play.
UT Tyler then blitzed the field in round two with the record round of 64 from Campbell, a 67 from junior
Jackson Naeger and a pair of 70's from classmates
Gage Burnham and Wray to pad the 15-stroke advantage heading into tomorrow's final round.
Campbell, Emerson, Wray and Naeger all sit within the individual top-10 after day one. Campbell begins tomorrow two strokes back of Mississippi College's Ethan Krock after a seven-under total with rounds of 73-64 (136). Emerson sits a stroke back at six-under 138 (67-71), while Naeger and Wray both sit in a tie for ninth place at four-under par.
Naeger posted rounds of 73-67 and Wray a pair of 70's for totals of 140.
UT Tyler carded 51 birdies as a team on Monday, 11 better than Oklahoma Christian, and led the field in both par four scoring average (3.90) and par five scoring average (4.60).
Senior
Alex Kopenhaver shot 146 (75-71) and sits in a tie for 24
th place and classmate
Carter Lewis a 159 (76-83) to sit 71
st as individual competitors.
UT Tyler will begin tomorrow's third and final round in position to secure their first team title of the season and collect a host of impressive head-to-head victories over some of the top squads in the Lone Star Conference.
