DALLAS, TEXAS – Low individuals rounds from
Seth Campbell and
Jackson Naeger helped guide UT Tyler to a fourth-place standing following day one of the DBU Fall Classic.
The Patriots shot rounds of 284-279 for a three-over par total of 563 for the event and will enter tomorrow's final round at the Golf Club of Dallas seven strokes back of Western New Mexico and DBU in first place. Junior
Jackson Naeger carded an opening round 66 and classmate
Seth Campbell a second round 65 to provide highlighted individual efforts for the Patriots in each of the opening two rounds on Monday.
Campbell, the reigning Lone Star Conference Men's Golfer of the Week, stayed in fine form on day one of the DBU Fall Classic with a pair of under-par rounds on Monday. The Lovelady, Texas native sits six-under par for the event and in second place individually following rounds of 69-65 for a 134 total.
He will begin tomorrow just one shot back of Midwestern State's Seth Bearden, who carded 67-66 for a seven-under 133 total. Western New Mexico and DBU share the overnight lead following day one at four-under par 556.
The Patriots sit ahead of four Lone Star Conference foes and well within striking range of what would be another impressive finish after winning The Hrncair last week in Lawton, Okla. A top five finish tomorrow at the DBU Fall Classic would close out a fall semester in which the Patriot's would record top five finishes in three out of their four events.
Naeger followed up his first-round 66 with a 73 to sit 12
th on the individual leaderboard at 139 (66-73). Junior
Gage Burnham shot 71 in each of the first two rounds to sit in a tie for 18
th place at 142 (71-71).
Junior
Carson Wray and sophomore
Luke Emerson both responded after struggling in the opening round to help UT Tyler to a one-under par 279 total in round two. Wray sits in a tie for 58
th place with rounds of 78-72 and Emerson in a tie for 63
rd after 80-71 for a 151 total.
Seniors
Alex Kopenhaver and
Carter Lewis each competed as individuals for UT Tyler in the event with Kopenhaver sitting in a tie for 27
th place after 69-74 on Monday and Lewis in a tie for 33
rd after a 75-70.
Tomorrow's third and final round will get started with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
