TYLER, TEXAS – Junior
Seth Campbell claimed the individual title and UT Tyler fifth place on the final day of the DBU Fall Classic.
Campbell carded a final round 70 on Tuesday morning and secured UT Tyler's first outright individual victory with a six-under par 204 (69-65-70) total at the Golf Club of Dallas. UT Tyler shot 295 as a team and finished fifth on the team leaderboard with an 858 (284-279-295), notching a top-five finish in three out of their four events of the fall semester.
DBU defended their home turf on Tuesday with a team victory following rounds of 277-279-288 for an 844 team total.
Campbell, who earned Lone Star Conference Player of the Week honors last week after tying for third individually at The Hrncair, made six birdies on Tuesday morning in route to an even-par round of 70. The Lovelady, Texas native finished six-under par for the event to notch UT Tyler's first outright individual title and completed the fall semester 11-under par in his final two tournaments.
Campbell fired two different rounds of 65 or better, shot par or better in five out of his last six rounds of golf and set the program record for individual score in relation to par, all within the span of the last week.
The Patriots closed out the fall semester in great form as a team as well, backing up last week's team title at The Hrncair with a fifth-place finish this week at the DBU Fall Classic. UT Tyler claimed head-to-head victories over four Lone Star Conference foes in the process.
Junior
Jackson Naeger finished in a tie for 11
th place after a 72 on Tuesday, completing his tournament one-over par with a 211 (66-73-72) total. Classmate
Gage Burnham shot a final round 76 and claimed a share of 26
th place with rounds of 71-71-76 for a 218 total.
Sophomore
Luke Emerson finished in a tie for 62
nd place after rounds of 80-71-77 for a 228 total and junior
Carson Wray in a tie for 67
th place with rounds of 78-72-79 for a 229.
Seniors
Alex Kopenhaver and
Carter Lewis each produced quality final rounds on Tuesday as individual competitors, carding rounds of 73 and 74, respectively. Kopenhaver claimed a tie for 19
th place with a 216 (69-74-73) and Lewis a tie for 32
nd place with a 219 (75-70-74).
UT Tyler will now enjoy the offseason after what is undoubtedly their most complete semester of golf in the Division II era ahead of the spring slate of events.
