LAREDO, TEXAS – Three Patriots sit in the top 10 individually as UT Tyler finished round one of the Jack Brown Memorial Invite in first place after a 295 on Monday afternoon.
UT Tyler will hold a four-shot advantage over #43 St. Mary's in tomorrow's final round after a blazing start to the championship spring semester for the team at Laredo Country Club. Monday's team total of 295 featured a pair of 72's from
Jackson Naeger and
Alex Kopenhaver and positions the Patriots for a chance at a tournament crown in tomorrow's final round.
Naeger and Kopenhaver both sit in a tie for third place on the individual leaderboard following even-par rounds, and junior
Seth Campbell sits in a tie for eighth place after a first round 74. UT Tyler led the field in birdies in round one, carding 14 on the day as a team.
Senior
Carson Whitton and freshman
Luke Emerson both carded rounds of 77 to round out the counting scores for the Patriots. That round of 77 places the Whitton-Emerson duo in a tie for 16
th place.
UT Tyler sits four strokes clear of St. Mary's in second place and six strokes clear of Houston-Victoria in third place.
Naeger and Kopenhaver both sit three strokes back of Sebastian Tannum Donaldson of St. Mary's, who led round one after a two-under par total of 70.
Both individual competitors for UT Tyler posted quality round as well as
Carter Lewis matched Naeger and Kopenhaver with a 72, and
Garrett Honeycutt with a first round 75. Honeycutt enters tomorrow's final round in a tie for 10
th place.
UT Tyler will begin play with a shotgun start tomorrow morning at Laredo Country Club.
