BOULDER CITY, NEVADA – The University of Texas at Tyler men's golf team posted their low round of the tournament on Tuesday afternoon with a 298 on the final day of the Las Vegas Desert Classic.
Sophomore
Jackson Naeger recorded a tie for 15
th place finish on the individual leaderboard following an even-par round of 72 on Tuesday to finish with a three-round total of 221 (78-71-72). UT Tyler finished in 17
th place on the team leaderboard with rounds of 314-307-298 at Boulder Creek Golf Club.
The Patriots collected a pair of head-to-head victories against in-region foes #41 Colorado-Colorado Springs and Fort Lewis College with the finish. Naeger's tie for 15
th place came in a field featuring six teams currently ranked within the GolfStat NCAA Division II Men's Golf National Rankings.
Senior
Carson Whitton returned to his high-level form with an even-par round of 72 on Tuesday, while freshman
Luke Emerson and
Seth Campbell rounded out the four counting scores on the day for the Patriots with rounds of 77.
#47 Colorado Christian claimed the team title with an 870 (299-284-287) for the three rounds, while Lee University's Beck Burnette earned individual honors with a 12-under par total of 204 (72-63-69).
Naeger made three birdies and three bogeys in route to that even-par score of 72 on Tuesday, while Whitton's 72 was more eventful with an eagle, three birdies, a triple bogey and two bogeys to complete his round at even par as well. Emerson was next up on the individual leaderboard behind Naeger with a tie for 60
th place following rounds of 80-74-77 for a 231 total.
Campbell and Whitton both finished in a tie for 80
th place with 236 total's, while junior
Carter Lewis rounded out the scoring for UT Tyler with rounds of 79-80-78 for a 237 total.
UT Tyler will look to use their low round of the tournament on Tuesday as momentum heading into their home event at the King-Alfred Spring Invitational on March 20-21 at Eagles Bluff Country Club.
