EDMOND, OKLA. – Junior
Seth Campbell of UT Tyler sits in second place individually and one shot back of the overnight lead following rounds of 69-73 on day one of the Oak Tree Invitational.
Campbell matched the low round of the field in round one with a one-under par 69 and slid back into second place following a second round 65 from Central Oklahoma's Jordan Wilson, who went 76-65 at Oak Tree Country Club to hold a one-shot advantage over Campbell. The Patriots will begin tomorrow's third and final round in a tie for seventh place as a team after enduring a brutal day of scoring conditions for the entire field.
UT Tyler shot rounds of 300-302 for a 602 total on a day in which the field average sat just north of 78 and only seven rounds of par or better were shot across a tournament stocked full of top Division II teams.
Junior
Jackson Naeger provided a one-over par round of 71 in round one to combine with Campbell's one-under round of 69. Junior
Carson Wray posted a 79 and senior
Carter Lewis an 81 for the four counting scores that resulted in a 300 team score.
The Patriots then slid four spots down the team leaderboard after a 302 in the second round, but will begin tomorrow morning within six shots of third place Midwestern State. Campbell posted the low score of the round for the Patriots with a 73.
Naeger sits in a tie for 20
th place after rounds of 71-78 for a 149. Junior
Jay Shero responded after an opening round 82 to post 75, the second lowest score of the round for the Patriots in round two.
Lewis shot 76 in the second round and Wray a 78 to round out the scoring for UT Tyler. Lewis went 81-76 and Wray a 79-78 to join Shero in a tie for 56
th place on the individual leaderboard.
Tomorrow's third and final round will get underway tomorrow morning.
