Thompson Places Second in Heptathlon at David Nobles Relays

Thompson kicked off the weekend with a huge performance in her first multi-event action of the season.

SAN ANGELO, TEXAS – UT Tyler track and field athlete Aerin Thompson placed second in the heptathlon at the David Nobles Relays after several signature performances and school records over the two day affair.

Action began on Thursday, where Thompson began with a 12th place run in the 100 meter hurdles. She quickly responded with a first place finish in the high jump, hitting a mark of 1.71 meters.

That effort broke the school record in the event, and vaulted her up the leaderboard in the seven event discipline.

The third event was the shot put, where Thompson added on a fifth place finish with a distance of 10.23 meters.

The final event of day one came in the 200 meters, where she tacked on yet another first place run as she took down the school record with a time of 23.54 seconds.

Those efforts placed her in second overall heading into the final three events taking place on Friday.

Friday began with the long jump, where again she found success as she took second place in the discipline. She broke another school record, jumping a total distance of 6.11 meters. That mark would count for her score, but due to the wind helping more than the allowed 4.0 m/s. Her official mark will go down as 5.97 meters.

In the javelin throw, her first mark hit 28 meters on the day, good enough to tack on a ninth place finish heading into the final event.

There, she showed another strong finish, taking the top spot in the 800 meters with a time of 2:14.35 and booking her spot as the second place finisher in the heptathlon.

On the day, Thompson scored 5,383 points, setting a new school record for the event and also posting an NCAA provisional mark in the process.

UT Tyler will now take on the David Nobles Relays with the remainder of the events beginning with the women's hammer throw at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
