AMARILLO, TEXAS – UT Tyler men's golf wrapped up their fall slate with a T-5th place finish on Tuesday afternoon, marking four straight top 10 finishes and two straight top five finishes to close out the fall semester.
The day began with the wrapping up of the second round of action, where the Patriots fired a second straight round of 278 as all four counting scores were in red figures.
That round was led by
Luke Emerson, who closed with three birdies in his final nine holes on his way to a 68.
Preston DeSerrano,
Corbin Murray, and
Connor Carver each shot rounds of 70 in the second round to put the Patriots in a tie for second through 36 holes.
The teams would not re-pair for round three, instead pushing on at the end of round two. The Patriots were lead in round three by
Preston Chabaud, who fired an even par 71. The freshman made five birdies and five bogeys in his round.
Scoring was closed out by Emerson, Murray, and DeSerrano, who shot rounds of 72, 73, and 74, in that order. Emerson and DeSerrano combined for seven birdies, while Murray made 16 pars and two bogeys in a level round.
Carver would fire a final round score of 76 to wrap up his tournament scoring.
DeSerrano would be the top Patriots finisher, placing 11th overall at four under par. Just behind was Emerson, finishing 15th at two under par. Carver finished 43rd overall, and Chabaud and Murray finished in a tie for 47th.
Also competing for the Patriots in the event was
Jacob Holloway, who finished at two over par for the event and 34th overall. He shot rounds of 74, 69, and 72 for the week.
The Patriots played the par fives in an average of 4.71 strokes, the fourth best mark in the field. They were ranked inside the top 10 for the week in par 3 and par 4 scoring average, as well as both pars and birdies.
UT Tyler will now look ahead to the spring semester as they attempt to qualify for their third straight NCAA Division II South Central/West Region Tournament.
